I trust those on here jumping on the graves of elderly possible Leave voters will not be trotting out the over used cliche "most vulnerable in society" in other threads.
Perhaps they could/should use "most vulnerable in society(except those that voted leave)" instead.

This is no different to any other democratic process. People vote against things (and parties), not for them. The leave campaigners had this behind them before the vote; in the coming years the backlash will be against them. It's inevitable.

The problem is the remain lot can't get this simple truth through their thick skulls, and seem determined to keep the population against them rather than letting nature take its course.”

I have been predicting a revote in 2020 since the result.

Worth remembering that no EU citizen was allowed the vote, yet they are still expected to pay taxes here.

I used to buy the Indy for years when it was a decent newspaper, now I would't dream of wasting my money on it. I read the online version just for a laught to see how ludicrously anti-Brexit it has become.

And obviously add in the 'ha ha old people died' thing we do get to the question of how we balance out who is more deserving of a place in civilised society.”

Well if you re-run it there is no telling what would happen but a quick guesstimate counting the 6% and 1% of people who regret their choice and those who have died i think leave still has it, although it seems close.

If the vote happened today it would have 52 - 48 for remain.

Also of note:

"The British Election Study found that 6 per cent of Leave voters regretted their vote, compared to 1 per cent of Remain voters."”

An election is a point in time - that is what people expressed at the time.

Further the value of a vote does not diminish as ones age increases, and you get closer to the average lifespan.

We had an referendum. It was not the result we may have wanted but we had it, and now it is time to take stock and ensure that the result was not as damaging as some of us think it would be.

(By the way unlike many of my age - I voted to remain in)

If it was worth remembering, I'd remember it......but I won't.

This is the sort of vile comment that summarises the views of many who claim to support Brexit. It is awful to contemplate the future of our country in the face of such nastiness. I view such attitudes with contempt and pity for the creatures who hold them. Those old people are your mothers, fathers, aunts, uncles or cousins. What has happened to our country and all the shared values that used to hold us together?

This Death Maths is so flawed it's not worth considering.
There will be more middle-aged 'on balance I eventually voted Remain' people who completely accept the original result and would now oppose it being overturned than 80-90 year olds who died in the meantime.

The Indy no longer prints copies, its daily weekday sales slumped to below 30,000 but yes it is amusing in how vehemently anti-Brexit it is as this pathetic article shows.

It's all it's got left in the locker. And appears to specialise in young people with very bad maths... something else the older generation is probably to blame for.

I'm not sure this even qualifies as an 'Indy' article as it's on the 'indy100' site, which seems to be a sort of twitter type multi-blog for people who can't manage to say 'oh woe is me me me' in less than 140 characters.

This is of course nonsense. The EU is going down the pan fast with other countries looking to leave now. All of project fears threats are not materialising. Why would more people now favour remaining in the EU?

Also if you go by opinion polls then 68% want the government to get on with Brexit, with most of parliament who originally favoured remaining, now supporting Brexit too:

Err, isn't MrEdgarFinchley on your side?
Go on then, condemn his comments as a remainer.

The old that die get replaced by the marvel of aging, a majority of people who voted remain are not ideologically pro Europe and may well find that democracy is indeed more important to them! Remember, on the event of another vote the anti-democracy hotel california aspect of the EU that leave voters warned about and got called conspiracy theorists will be proven correct! Only the most ardent fans of the EU will not be terrified by that.

As a remain voter, I fail to see how an article in a newspaper written by someone completely unconnected to me means I am not accepting the result and desperately scraping the barrel to have a moan. Some ridiculous comments on this thread.

Annual Death Rate UK the latest figures from ONS

There were 529,655 deaths registered in England and Wales in 2015, an increase of 5.6% compared with 2014. That averages at 44 138 monthly so since June 2016 approximately 220689 people have died. What does that prove?

Why is there an assumption that only the old voted leave anyway? three of my cousins voted remain and two are in their 70's and one in his 80's, yet a couple of friends in their 30's voted leave.

As for people changing their minds, that happens after general elections and there is no call for a re-run, and that has more of an impact on peoples lives than the remain/brexit vote - it was the election result that caused the referendum in the first place, as we wouldn't have had one with a Labour, LibDem or Coaltion government, perhaps the Tory voters who wanted to remain shouldn't have voted Tory?

To VastGirth it means you an I are too old to have an opinion. Amazing the number on here who agree with this article and who spend all day posting. Is it safe to assume some at least are either unemployed or retired?

Anyway, all the old Leavers were given a new lease of life by the Brexit result. It's like when you take an ancient, arthritic dog to the vets and he/she gives it one of those magic steroid boosters that has it running around for another year like a puppy.
Perhaps it's woeful old Remainers who have given up the ghost. Everyone else is very keen to live and see what happens next. It's so exciting!
