Top 5 albums 2016
We're rightly into December now and I think it's time for reflecting on our favourites from 2016. I already tweeted my top 5 so here they are.
Number 5: Wild by Joanne Shaw Taylor. She just keeps getting better, I hope she gets back to Belfast at some point next year. Dyin to Know Number 4: Fire on the Floor by Beth Hart. Don't try to pigeon hole this one into a genre because you'll fail. Unless............is 'awesome' a genre? Fire on the Floor Number 3: Grow by Amanda St John. Great debut, I look forward to more from her You Blew It Number 2: Solas by The Answer. Bold decision to go in a different direction but it works. The album is more dynamic and interesting than anything they've done before, the song writing is more mature, and the musical arrangements & Cormac's vocals have more restraint. Solas Number 1: Feelin Good by Kaz Hawkins. There wasn't much between number 1 and 2 but this edged it. Just a superb blues/soul/gospel/rock n roll album Pray Feelin Good (cover) Soul Superstar This Is Me |

I LOVE Wild by Joanne Shaw Taylor, top call OP!!
But unfortunately that doesn't crack my top 5 which consists of: 1. Black Stone Cherry - Kentucky: Amazingly fun songs and a great sing along album, really dig the party vibes on some of the tracks like "Soul Machine". 2. The Amorettes - White Hot Heat: I had a hand in guesting on one of the tracks with the guitar so this album has a lot of great memories for me right off the bat, and then the actual songs that I had no hand in are all top work by the girls too. 3. Delain - Moonbathers: Just an epic feeling record, some great, great vocal work and just an all round relaxing sound while also being incredibly energetic. 4. Metallica - Hardwired.. To Self Destruct: Metallica are back with this album, some really really top guitar work with regards to the main riffs and especially on the closing riff of "Halo On Fire", I just love this album. 5. Green Day - Revolution Radio: A top return to form post-American Idiot after some fairly weak albums recently. Runners Up: Airbourne - Breaking Outta Hell Volbeat - Seal The Deal The Pretty Reckless - Who Are You Selling For? Joanne Shaw Taylor - Wild |

So this year, as a lover of music of most genres, I've made a conceited effort to listen to as many albums as I can. And throughout the year, I've been adding these albums to a list as I've been listening to them, ranking and categorising them. So rather than a top 5, here is every single album I've listened to this year, in order of preference.
Great: 1. Walking On Cars - “Everything This Way” 2. Bastille - “Wild World” 3. Metallica - "Hardwired...to Self Destruct" 4. Blink 182 - "California" 5. Green Day - "Revolution Radio" 6. Will do my top 5 at the weekend , I know roughly what it will be ![]() I've been a fan of JST for a long time now, seen her live many, many, times and it is great to see she is finally getting the recognition she deserves. I saw her a few days after she appeared on ...Later and she said she'd spent the intervening few days fielding questions from bemused music journalists wanting to know who this person was, who was on ...Later, had a sold out UK tour, and a Top 20 album, but they had never heard of her. As for my Top five, I'll give that some thought today... |

5: Band Maid - Brand New Maid
4: Joe Bonamassa - Blues of Desperation 3: Leah: Kings & Queens (released 2015 but I only discovered her this year) 2: Metallica - Hardwired to Self Destruct 1: Babymetal - Metal Resistance - for its unbridled joy and genre busting tunes. |
