She majorly messed up and should have been fired. If in a real life situation you had an important deadline to meet which required important information being put on a label and you tried to phone your boss 19 times for the info but your calls were not answered leading you to miss your deadline and it then transpired your boss had been getting drunk and not even had their phone on them .... it would surely result in the boss being fired and rightly so.

Laughable that the whole thing seemed to be brushed under the table and was seen as almost amusing?!
I doubt that Trishna was laughing because she was stitched up in good style.

Yeap, personally I didn't feel she should have gone over Grainne based on this task ...

Yes, being drunk at work is a disciplinary or even firing offence in the real world.

But Grainne was probably saved by the format -- Lord Sugar would need to have fired both Grainne and Trishna for drinking but he could only fire one of them because he needs to be left with five candidates for the "final five" interview round.

This meant Lord Sugar had to find a reason for firing that only applied to one of the candidates, and presumably the question was whether the task was lost by Trishna's fondness for the colour orange, or Frances' appalling ignorance of history and geography. The customers certainly objected to both the colour and the name (and the map). At a stretch, Grainne as PM could have been held responsible for both.

So yes, getting pissed at the distillery as Karren put it would normally have seen Grainne out but she was saved by Trishna having joined in. The phone thing is poor but probably made no material difference to losing the task: it just meant the ingredients were not listed on the label. There is also the obvious suspicion that Frances made all 19 missed calls in a couple of minutes just before the deadline.

For what it's worth (almost nothing) I'd have fired Frances, mainly over the name but also over the map of the wrong continent, or Grainne for doing almost no project management.

Yes good points.

Personally though as the PM I would have held Grainne accountable for allowing Trisha to get drunk too. As PM she should have made sure she was on top of everything and if she noticed a colleague who was not used to drinking was being affected by the tasting then she should have stopped her swallowing and insisted on spitting - as she should have done from the beginning - the whole thing was ridiculous really. But although Trisha was an adult who should take responsibility for herself too, I do think Grainne should have been on top of things enough to take control at the distillery and ensure the job got done without anyone getting sozzled! Alana managed it after all! So in terms of sacking, I'd say Grainne should still take overall responsibility for the events that took place at the distillery and the worst pitches on day 2 ....

I only partially agree with that - she was saved by the bias of Sugar - and as has been for some time.

She was the PM and she was a disgrace.

Yes she was but Grainne was PM in name only. So if Lord Sugar's criterion for firing was being completely useless and making no discernible difference to the task, Grainne would have gone.

But it was Frances and Trishna who lost the task, Grainne was just a passenger.
