It kind of is and it predates the Christian Christmas.

I think if you're not Christian, you should not celebrate Christmas (the clue's in the title). I'm not a Hindu and therefore I do not celebrate Diwali, I'm not Muslim so I do not celebrate Eid etc etc. Don't get me wrong - if you want to celebrate the season, pls feel free to do so but should we not be honest about what we're celebrating?

Ah but we are celebrating some winter solstice thingy from before Christian times so that's ok kinda excuse .
No we are celebrating the ultimate consumerism w**k fest that corporate business can extract from us. We drool over it as we meekly hand over our money for yet more endless tat. , we smile as we squeeze friends and family for gifts, we laugh like hell as this time of the year causes the highest incidents of suicide. And we giggle like hell as families all fall out yet again from forced proximity. You've got to love Christmas .

No.
It's just a family celebration of what we have in each other.
So I'm thankful that it's an annual focal point for that.
We visited a farm shop today and in a barn they had a "nativity" display - real animals and models of the family with "Baby Jesus".
£2 per person.
My wife took in our two year old grandson but I balked at the concept and sat in the car 👀
I'll settle for Christmas Day together though.👍

I'm so bored with the pedants pointing out that Yuletide was pagan before the Christians blah blah blah, that I'm determined to add Christianity to my Christmas holiday.

So there!!!

So long, suckers!

Yes, a day off work with a chance for all the family to get together around a table and celebrate their love for each other.
"Christian" doesn't necessarily mean "follower of Christ".
For many it means simply being decent, humane and respectful.

If it's Christmas Eve carols you want, then Radio 4 has the live broadcast from King's College Cambridge at 3pm. Always a good listen and marks the start of Christmas for me as the darkness sets in.

As far as religion goes, we generally go to the midnight carol service. I'm not particularly religious, but carols are something I associate with Christmas Eve and think they bring out the magic.

Don't often agree with you Toby but on this occasion I do indeed.
All my family around the table , willingly and happily celebrating family and love and joy and commiserations is a privilege . There is no gift that can begin to equal that. I'm blessed.

Yep - but not overdone - my kids are atheists. But who can resist a Nativity story and the odd Christmas hymn?

Didn't think I ever posted anything sensible enough anyway 😎
Have as nice a one as I'm hoping for - might well have a third grandchild before the 25th!

Maybe some church music here and there.

I'll avoid any other aspect of Christmas.

And Paganism is a religion therefore those trying to be clever are indulging in more than scraps of religious traditions.

WE?????? speak for yourself love, on Christmas day I will be helping provide Christmas Lunch for the homeless, lonely old people, people with no money in fact anyone who wants to join in.

I will be wearing my Mrs Santa outfit and my 2 little pugs will be wearing their reindeer costumes and we will all have a jolly good time.

Now we are a Christian charity and as a Christian I shall be attending the service before hand, but the people I am going to help feed (think I am on the rota for sprouts) wont have to, I couldn't give a monkeys chuff if they are believers or not, I don't care what colour, creed, or religion they are (or even if they have no religion at all) all I am going to care about is making sure they have a lovely Christmas Lunch and take advantage of any other help we can give them

Also as a Christian I am very much aware of the cult of Deus Sol Invictus Mithras. and the part Dionysius Exiguus played in incorporating the pagan festivities into the Christian ones.

In fact I probably know more about the origins of Christmas than many people who just witter on about the sky fairy and pagan ritual, thinking they are so clever that they have figured it all out, It gets a little boring to be honest.

So yeah Religion will play an enormous part in my Christmas Celebrations, however on Boxing day I am going to spend the day on the sofa watching cheesy Christmas films and getting through at least one box of Newberry Fruits

I suppose there is a scrap of religion in our Christmas despite not being believers. We like to play a CD of carols on Christmas morning. I prefer the traditional things about Christmas than all the modern excess.
