So now YouView are rolling out their wizzy new UI (based on HTML5, apparently) will Freesat be doing something similar? The Freesat UI (as nice as it is) is a little outdated nowadays.

If it's not broke, why fix it?

Working fine.
From what I have experienced over the years, with all platforms and their software (with the exception of cable - never used it), over different brands too, it's quite complicated esp if you have a pvr type recorder. Whenever "improvements" are made, u can assume there will be at least some problems after, until a further bug fix released.

The freetime ui is based on html5, you can see the box downloading a (password protected) zip file on boot up.... My5 is html5 website too, alas video playback didn't work in the browser...

Not to mention "who's going to pay for the CONSIDERABLE costs?", are Freesat going to pay manufacturers to set up teams to rewrite the software for all the many different boxes out there?.

Assuming there is ever an updated interface, I'm pretty sure that it would only appear on future products, and not an upgrade to older ones.

Besides, do you watch the interface, or the programmes? What's in place may not be brilliant, but it seems to work. I can't see any reason to change it. AFAIC, the only change I'd like would be more HD channels.

The best change to the UI Freesat could do on a 2nd generation box, is display the recording time in the media list and change the inconsistent (and stupid) order the media list is ordered inside series folders (or even better provide user sort options).

At the moment order is primarily decided by any broadcaster who transmits an episode number. When they incorporate more than one series with episode numbers, or on long running programmes reset the episode count the resulting list is a complete dogs dinner.

Even the simplest situation ... Broadcaster providing episode numbers lowest at the top of the list., no episode numbers the order is reversed.

The Foxsat sorted by date and time, why they ever changed it baffles me.
