Mobile phones aren't allowed in distilleries in case they cause any fumes to ignite.
So they had to leave the phone in another room.

The whole they were too hammered to answer calls was the story made up by the edit producer for amusement.

Maybe it was their fault they didn't arrange to leave at intervals to make contact but for all we know they have to do what they are told by the filming crew and can't split up during filming.

Hmm, not sure I buy that. They knew - or should have done - that they had to keep in touch with Frances. It was the PM's responsibility to ensure that happened. Grainne should have been calling Frances to check how things were going, not leaving it all up to her to (try unsuccessfully to) contact them.

Alana didn't seem to have any trouble keeping in touch with the rest of her team.

There was also the time when this series when one part of the team failed to get back to the boardroom on time on the scavenger hunt, it was all but glossed over at the boardroom stage with only a minor point being made about it.

It seems Sugar has his favourites.

I wondered if there was a safety reason - if that's right , the whole thing was manufactured? And Karen would have had her phone taken outside too?

I've only just caught up with this episode so I'm late to this thread. I don't agree it was glossed over. It was mentioned several times, including the final boardroom. Karren certainly didn't seem to treat it as a joke as some people have said.

^^ It was glossed over to the point of LS making a joke out of it. It was totally unprofessional to get drunk, whilst working and in most organisations would lead to instant dismissal.

The other team had no problems communicating with the sub team. If it is the case that phones aren't allowed in side (I can see that being a good point) then any decent manger would say "right every 20 mins I need to pop out and check my phone" especially since they had potentially task winning information that they needed to communicate to another party.
