Bloomberg are reporting it as a done deal:

Other sources say an offer has been tabled.

Its a shame that one of our biggest media and telecommunications companies will now be fully foreign owned.

So . . . . . does this mean that Murdoch will now fully own Sky?

Does that mean a rebrand if it successfully happens i.e. Sky News becoming Fox News UK etc etc

Snips from the BBC news article

"Sterling's 16% fall against the US dollar in the wake of the Brexit vote has made UK companies more attractive targets for foreign companies."

"Sky has not performed well in the UK stock market this year, and is seen as a Brexit loser. Fox is of course also a dollar bidder, and the collapse in sterling makes Sky a less expensive purchase than pre-Brexit," he said.
......So Murdoch's most powerful mouthpiece, the sun tables brexit.... and he is well connected in the tory party. Now he gets the remaining shares he doesn't own at a knock down price because of the slump in the pound.

Brexit happens and because he has more control than he already needs over the political class, he and his organisation become even more powerful, with I add no powerful European 'bureaucrats' to stop him doing what he needs...

GREAT!

I thought it said that Fox offered 12bn in 2011 which was rejected by Sky, and now it has been upped to 18.5bn, even allowing for a slight decrease in the £ it is still an increase of a fair few quid !

The original offer in 2010 was £7.00 per share.

Today's offer is £10.75 per share.

Obviously the fall in the £ helps Fox if they are funding it with $ (or borrowing in $). However at the same time they are paying Sky shareholders in £ - so all that matters to Sky shareholders is the price in £.

The 2010 offer of £7.00 was rejected and Sky said they would only consider offers of at least £8.00. Before an agreement was reached on price, the offer was referred to regulators, there were subsequently various twists and turns and then ultimately the offer was withdrawn (in 2011) following the phone hacking scandal.

(NB. The 2010 offer was actually made by News Corporation - prior to it being split into two).

^ Exactly this and it's also why the other hard right press barons also supported Brexit so that they can escape much needed regulation of their excesses.

I can't see web news or streaming media holding out much longer to the unstoppable double forces of print media and expensive television bundles.

^ Thanks for the lulz! (It's also why Sky had no choice but to introduce Now TV)

I have never been a big fan of Murdoch.
How will this affect its broadcasting. Will it mean that in time ever more programmes and stuff will move to Sky after the deal gose though.
As I have said a few times in the past I all for other companies like BT and Netflix trying to take Sky on.
I know Sky is still the biggest pay TV provider in the UK. Also Skys packages have almost doubled in price since I got rid of Sky over 12 years ago.

You're comparing apples and oranges there mate.
Openreach is the underlying infrastructure that supplies internet and telecommunications to most people's homes in the UK.
There's obviously a conflict of interest when the company that provides that, is the same company that competes with other ISPs and content providers.
This is in no way similar to the FOX buying Sky deal.

Sky in my option are greedy and will get even more so after the deal gose though.
I have BT TV as well as Netflix as its a cheaper option than going back to Sky.
