Roy and Hayley fell in love in the early days but they were a lovely couple but Roy has moved on from Hayley and loves Cathy. He may not want to marry her but he has to follow his promise to Cathy.

I voted for Haley but all probably a bit pointless as they cannot bring her back.
This is the problem with killing off so many characters in our soaps.
In my opinion a character should only be killed off in very rare circumstances.

Roy is thanking his lucky stars that Hayley had her special lemonade when she did - he's now free to pursue all the women throwing themselves at him... Cathy, Nessa, Mary, Eva... the lot.

Wasn't that long ago when Hayley got a bashing on this forum for being cruel to Roy before her death. I suppose people don't wish to speak ill of the dead and want look back on her as this saintly figure despite her mistreatment of Roy.

You are right, Callum. She treated him dreadfully, but they worked a lot better than him and Cathy.
Maybe the same story with different actors would have a different result?

That was one of the instances where it was right to kill the character off. Julie Hesmondhalgh wanted to leave Corrie for good. Their options at that point was to either split Roy and Hayley up and have her go off without him (which doesn't fit in with her character) or kill her off. If an actor really is sure that they'll never return to the role and they can't recast the character, then I think it's acceptable to kill them off. I mean, just look at the characters they have to make excuses for when it comes to weddings and funerals, usually unconvincing excuses because we all know that they couldn't get the actor back.

I voted Cathy in lieu of an 'other' option.

Well since Hayley is dead Roy cannot be with her so that is not an option and he certainly shouldn't marry Cathy so I prefer him on his own, so I won't be voting either way.

Hi Mel.....think indirectly we both agree that killing off a character should only be as a last resort.... i.e. the character really does not want to retur and it fits the storyline.

Hayley and Roy obvs although my memories of them are tainted by those awful last few months where Hayley behaved totally unreasonably towards him.

Cathy, like many in current Corrie, is a massive irritant.
