Broom - two handed.

Small brush - one handed.

I use one of those long-handled brushes with a long-handled pan in the other hand, does that count as a broom? If so, one-handed (as each one is in a hand ).

A big broom, two-handed.

You could, but it would be much less effective, and the kind of thing you might do when you're being lazy.

I've done it, but mostly when I was a child. Hold the broom by the very end and walk around, trailing it behind me. Now I'd be exerting no downward pressure whatsoever, but it would still sort of work. Or if you held it a low enough angle you could lightly push it across the floor or path with one hand. You could do the same with a mop, but of course two-handed would be the best way for both.

I don't, we have a cleaner that comes into the office and I think she just uses her hoover on all floors then mops the kitchen.

I had a bloody dream about a brush last night

OK you can use a brush one handed if you are being paid to sweep up and you don't care about doing a good job. From the dream

you cannot use a besom one handed

Well if you really were pushing a broom around with one hand in work you were being a douche so suck it up and do your job properly and he'll move on.

I had to google that word. Might come in useful in scrabble. I won't ask what the dream was.
