I know its not fashionable in these days of tablets... laptops etc and ever smaller devices.... but Im thinking of going for a desktop .... this one in fact
http://www.argos.co.uk/product/5481710 Intel Pentium quad core. N3700. Processor speed 1.6GHz. 8GB RAM. 1000 gig hard drive the memory seems important and this one has 8 gb of ram memory Is this a good choice ? anyone suggest something better ? or a better place to buy from ! |

I had a pentium P4 in my last PC running XP and it was just about ok but got hot and because it was 32bit only 4GB Ram.
You could have a look at cpu benchmark to see how processors perform. Lower rankings best ..... My old P4 2328 My present Q6600 926 Your one 1293 My suggestion 540 which is a Dell Inspiron, which costs £29 more. There are of course many more to choose from, I'd advise to get an i3 with 8GB RAM for the money you have to spend, doesn't have to be the Dell just that I like them. |

THANKS for the tip...
you reckon that the 6th Generation Intel® Core™ i3-6100T Processor in the Dell beats the quad core in the HP Slimline ? |

I have all of these, and much prefer my desktop. Great performance, easy to add extra stuff, comfy high-back swivel chair, large screen monitor... I hardly ever use my laptop.
Go for it. ![]() Can't really recommend a particular desktop as, like most things, it's down to wants / needs etc. I bought my last desktop from pcspecialist.co.uk - I emailed them, told them what I wanted / what I would be mainly using the PC for and they gave me some specs to look over, they eventually built a custom PC for me. Very pleased with it. Price, delivery and support all very good. |

It seems to me that the system that the OP mentions offers a small footprint by using laptop type componentry but at the price of lack of expansion or upgrade options. Unless you really have a space problem why not have a more conventional tower with space for extra drives and cards?
