My Maplin special telly box, an Echostat will let me export files via USB to watch on a computer at a later date. Can't remember the file format tho. I can't see movie studios being too worried about folk 'pirating' films off the tv.

I'm surprised that a government website is saying making a recording at home for purposes other than time-shifting is "...likely to be illegal".
When did this happen? It's surely a new thing because it was always a civil matter for the home user. Did the government website get it wrong or is this how it is these days? https://www.gov.uk/guidance/exceptions-to-copyright |

A humax 1800 or 2000 pvr allows you to transfer any video.ts files directly to a standard memory stick, from the user menus. The saved files can be saved on a hard disk, then later be transferred back onto the pvr via memory stick at a later date, for re watching.

Note: When a file is moved to a different storage, it will be copied. However, video recordings cannot be copied to other storage devices. I think you will find that like Panasonic PVRs it may allow you to move a FreeviewTV recording file elsewhere but not to make an extra copy of it. Also have you ever tried playing such a file on another device, especially Freeview HD TV recordings which are usually encrypted by the recording device. |
