They're a bit harsh on Steve Brookstein as Simon did treat him like crap to be fair.
They was quite fair with Leona I thought.
Harsh on Matt Cardle, especially when they're sticking up for the less talented 1D who was more successful than Matt for other reasons over Music imo.
Overrating Little Mix imo.
Fair on James Arthur on his past mistakes, didn't actually comment on his Music though I noticed.
It's ashame with Ben as he seemed like a nice guy, but what they're saying is true.
That's my sum up of the article anyway.

Leona and Little Mix are the obvious winners here. Leona's commercial peak with Bleeding Love and Spirit still beats any other X Factor act, including One Direction, but Little Mix have had more longevity and are very current.
It'll be interesting to see how James Arthur does from here, and whether his mini renaissance is more than just Say You Won't Let Go. Personally, I think that song would've been huge had any one released it, and the album has sold well off the back of it. I'm not convinced he'll continue to be huge.

I wouldn't say Little Mix have 'longevity' when they have turned out 4 albums in 5 years and each has done well enough to be considered a success. Lets not forget they haven't had monster album sales...they have a fan base of young people that will eventually not want to buy. We've seen this with so many pop bands over the past and especially ones that have that fan base.

I was referring to commercial longevity. Spirit was huge, Echo was big, Glassheart under performed and I Am flopped. Therefore, Leona only had two truly successful album campaigns (and a semi-successful Christmas album). Little Mix have had four so far, and they appear to be getting more successful with each album, which is something Leona didn't do.
I'm not calling Leona a failure, far from it. As I said, her overall highs outpeak all other X Factor contestants, and it was her huge Worldwide success that helped make the show as big as it is today. Leona does, of course, still have longevity, as I'm sure she'll remain working in the music industry in some capacity for many years.

The reviews weren't just about sales though, were they? And Little Mix's sales have been consistently growing in the U.K. anyway. They have two albums in the top 40.
I thought Leona's was genuinely witty.

They are successful in singles (more so with leads) which is great but now what makes a long standing artist is a hit album or two. I don't think they will be together come 2021 (10 years after win) compared with Leona who is still successful and in many ways respected (currently 10 years since her win)).

Not really as SYCO are very limited as to what they can do with their acts due to their lack of musical nouse.

Maybe not overall but where Get Weird has sold roughly 650k, Leona's third album Glassheart has only sold around 62k - less than a tenth of what Little Mix's third album has sold to date.
If we're to include Christmas With Love, then Glory Days has already outsold Leona's fourth album, and it was only released three weeks ago.
Little Mix are more popular now then when they first started. As much as I do like Leona, there's no denying that by her fifth year in the music industry, her success wasn't anywhere near the same level she achieved with Spirit.
The lesson is; make sure your first album is good, but make sure your second album is better. It shows progression.

Everyone blames Syco but have a look at other labels and you will see thay drop artists just as fast. It's not a charity but a hard nosed business and one where the public decide . The music has to be good of course and a good USP but even with all of that sometimes the public just doesn't connect . There is a also a very small shelf life in the pop industry . Little Mix and Leona both did well

I think if an artist has a 3million selling UK album and then comes back to sell over 600k with their second....that's still brilliant! Just because your second doesn't eclipse your first or last successful doesn't mean there isn't progression.
Would you the say the same with Michael Jacksons post thriller album?
Leona has progression in her music and her sound...Syco didn't want that. Leona went against what they wanted...read her letter to fans.
When Little Mix start showing progression in their sound....we'll see how they do. Also...roll on 2021.

Unfair for Sam B, at least she's carved out a musical theatre career for herself, which is more than be said for Ben Haenow.
Also unfair on Louisa, she's nit had enough time to determine her success, also it's harder to get a number 1 in today's streaming era, I think she's doing quite well tbf
