The battery thing is a myth as there is no difference with modern analoge and digital sets with station displays. OK manally analogue tuned transistor/ceramic filtered non chipset based sets were power effeceint but hard to buy new and never now installed in cars.
Shimano are you going to answer our questions so we can help you or are you just going to moan?
Doubt if he has heard a properly installed car DAB system with the main 128k stereo stations (which match or better FM sound quality as there is no multipath distortion in cities or hilly areas) or 192k r3?

Indeed, R2 and 3 sound significantly better on DAB in a mobile reception condition, because you get a stable and consistent stereo image

I would predict 2023 for national stations, with the announcement being made in early 2018.

2023 is the year that that all three analogue INR licences expire (they have already had two statutory rollovers).. I think it will be done by region, starting with the region with highest DAB ownership (Northern Ireland may be the last).

The BBC's FM network requires major investment if it's still in place during the 2020s.
I think you are right
They are saying 50% digital listening will be reached during 2017 or 2018 which will trigger a confirmed date.
Also Norway will have started a national FM switchoff in 2017 which will provide useful info for the UK.

If Classic FM became digital only, Classic DAB would not be a good replacement name for that station.
Then it could stay as Classic FM ?

Jazz FM hasn't actually been on FM for almost 13 years

Radio Wales/Scotland will stay on AM i would of thought for some years yet due to the difficult terrain and poor DAB/FM coverage.
But Medium Wave and Long Wave is poor in the hilly terrain of Scotland and Wales and not used much except near the transmitter sites. DAB can perform better because it can bounce around in the valleys and improve rather than distort the signal as with VHF FM.
