We go for a long walk to blow away the cobwebs, watch TV, and give the cook a day off. We eat up the leftovers from Christmas Day for lunch, and early evening it's a help yourself buffet - very informal, do what you like day. Definitely no shopping - the sales are on longer than Boxing Day !
For years, the name of Boxing Day confused me. Did anyone else used to think it referred to a sport in which men with padded gloves try and knock each other down? Yet as far as I could see, it wasn't normal to stage boxing matches on that day. Then one day I heard it alluded to boxing for presents, and it being traditional to spend the day after Christmas clearing this away.
I remember as a kid my parents tried to spice Boxing day up a bit by holding one of the presents back but they were invariable some crappy annual or somesuch and after a few years it was mercifully abandoned. Complete non-starter of a day and as sales are on virtually all year round these days not even good for that anymore. Should just be quietly forgotten and treated like it is, just another ordinary day of the year.

I go to the pub and watch lots of sporting events on the big screen. My local is always packed on Boxing Day with people avoiding family and/or shopping.
I go to shops. I'm misrible, can't get along with people for one day or even watch movies or read or anything, or go for a walk. Its fantastic laughing at all the pathetic retail assistants trying to keep a cheery face when they just want to be with their families. Actual hilarious!

I feel sorry for people in retail, Christmas is basically one day for them..

I pity anyone that feels the urge to go shopping at poundstretchers on a boxing day. Your bosses are greedy arsehats.
I usually go see the parents on boxing day afternoon.

Not everyone in retail celebrates Christmas.
Its not all shops that are even open on Boxing day.
Just 2 years ago, I found it was only Next and some diy stores/restaurants, that were open boxing day in a busy town where I spent the Christmas period in a hotel.
Big stores such as Marks & Spencer & supermarkets were still closed.
