u take all the boxes that stuff came in, your presents, presents you got for other people, etc, spend all day fitting smaller boxes inside larger boxes (like chinese dolls), then bung the whole lot on top of the wardrobe and forget about it ..............

Go down to the beach and watch the raft race and the annual charity football match on the beach, FIshermen v Firemen. When they're over I'll go back up through town and call in one of the pubs for a mulled cider.

It's a big day here and has been since the 1800s when Boxing Day was when the fishermen's wives had a day off and used to leave their men at home looking after the kids/pets/housework while they met in the seafront pubs. There are usually a few thousand people out to watch the raft race and footie match whaterver the weather.

It is likely to be much the same as any other day for me, merely surviving until the next day having survived from the largely similar day before. Nothing interesting about it at all, unfortunately.

No. I used to go out with the Sabs when my family lived in a rural area.

My husband was supposed to be off this year however he is now working in the evening but has the following day off in full. So in the day probably just lay around, have some food and drink then in the evening I'll probably do the same.

It's slightly surreal, tbh, to see the normally busy high street full of people on horseback and hounds milling about, tails wagging madly. They are lovely dogs, and cruise through the crowds getting a huge fuss from everyone.

The master of hounds is usually pissed (so much so, that the year before last he had to be lifted onto his horse) and makes a speech that is rabidly right-wing, for which he is loudly jeered by around 75% of the spectators in this largely Lib Dem, remain-voting town.

You don't have to be a toff to ride out with this hunt, you can pay for the day and don't need to be a full hunt member. You get lots of kids on Thelwell-type ponies joining in.

As far as I can see there is no Bond film on ITVs 1-4 on Boxing Day, the only one I can see listed is Spectre on one of the Sky Movie channels at 9.00pm.

As for me it's work this year.

Maybe in the future there'll be machines that will magically allow us to watch films anytime we want.

Will nip down corner shop, get a paper for the crosswords, sudoku, sport.
See if there is a game on locally.

But really do we need big stores open? Boxing Day, the servants had a day off. Now they are expected to work their butts off.
Around here thankfully, no trains, buses, hospitals don't do routine, out patient stuff. Just emergencys, births etc. Heck ev en the Boxing Day papers is lighter and full of articles written before the holidays (actual news content is low, because even journos take a break, TV News is reviews of the year). Just hope her Majesty doesn't pass away. All those MPs, Journalists, Newsreaders called in as they are eating Turkey and Brussell Sprouts.
Remember years ago, before big stores opened Boxing Day, local corner shop closed at 1pm Boxing Day, Now with Tesco Express,,Sainsbury Local even the corner shop opens longer on Boxing Day (sad).

Notce Odeon opening Christmas Day, later opening, early closing and judging from show times not all screens. Thnk Boxng Day if cinemas open should be similar, less shows, screens.,

Police, Fire, Ambulance and NHS workers all accept that they possibly have to work, that is the nature of their job.

Supermarkets, pound shops and Currys do not need to open.

According to the link, only Lidl and Aldi are remaining closed Boxing Day. So they should.

Glad to read that. I don't have a medical opinion about supermarkets and big stores opening on BD. If I see my doctor I'll ask what he thinks about it though.
