Do You Think the X Factor's Winner Single Wont Go To Number One Again?
Now that being the biggest selling single of the week does not guarantee you a number one - do you think X Factor will be number 1 this year?
The song wlll have to be one people will want to stream over and over again, unlike Forvever Young last year. |

It all depends on Spotify. iTunes sales are so low now that even Zayn & Taylor Swift will be lucky to make the top 10 next Friday even if their new single stays #1 on iTunes all week. Spotify's sales data will just push the single further down the top 10 throughout the week and will probably enter at #12.
Louis Tomlinson is apparently releasing his first solo single tomorrow night after an exclusive performance on The X Factor Final. Again, if it's not available on Spotify then chances of #1 will be non existent. As for the eventual X Factor winner, to have a shot at being #1 the single would need to have a massive lead on iTunes but also climb into the Spotify top 5 (at least) within 48 hours of release. I can't see it happening, especially if the winner's single is another predictable ballad - even if it is a new song written by Ed Sheeran. Mariah Carey's 22 year old Christmas classic is the one to watch. |

I think it'll do it. Don't forget TXF has a deal with Spotify this year so that's bound to mean the single is prominent on playlists so it'll do well there. And the single can't be as bad as last year's.

all about the type of song it is. Last years winners single was poor, hence the rubbish sales.

Possible but they will only have just over 4 days of sales, same with streams and no physical copy.
Everything else has a 2 day advantage over it, so it may well come down to how well it performs on it's 2nd week of release going into the Christmas charts |

From what I gathered they have taken all this into account and tried to come up with a "streaming" hit.

The chart week now runs from Friday to Thursday and the Winner's single will be released after Sunday's final. Essentially, it will be missing out on 3 days of sales and streams - it will only have 4 days.
Next, digital downloads are really weak now, last week's #1 sold 30K, but it's streaming accounted for 40,4K sales. It will depend on Spotify whether they put the song on their main playlists. That might depend on the quality of the song and maybe even who is the artist - the winner. Also, Spotify might not put the song on it's playlists immediately (on Monday). Seems to me they might try to get the #1 in it's second week. |

I don't agree with including streams in charts because the same people stream multiple times and many use the patched android version of spotify to not pay the subscription

I think it really all depends on the winner and the song. I can see 5AM having an upbeat song and getting it then Saara or Matt having a slower song.

The song would have to beat all the songs currently in the chart, plus new songs from Louis Tomlinson and Little Mix.
That seems like a very tall order to me. |

The Winners single will never get to Number one again as the Military Wives will dominate for the next Ten years

The charts are a joke since they included streaming, back in the day you had to really like a song to bother to head to the shops and part with cash for it, even in the download era it still cost money, now its just the same playlists playing the same songs and we have a stagnent chart.
So many songs this year have flopped on the chart despite being memorable and having good airplay. Craig David's had a big comeback this year but has only scraped in at no 10 with 1 song, a few years ago that would have been a string of top5 hits |

He won't make it this week, he's a still a way behind in the midweeks. Next week it's likely he will, although not a certainty in the way it once was regarding X Factor winners and Christmas week. Either way, he'll do better than Louisa did this time last year.

The winners song is depressing, not good for christmas cheer thats for sure. If it makes the number one spot, then well i give up!

I saw it was doing pretty badly on spotify earlier: 25 and going down. I know it only counts to a certain percentage but it doesn't bode well if people aren't streaming the song I don't think it stands a chance.

That is not completely true. The right song can still do it.
Little Mix hit number one with 4 days of sales for shout out to my ex. They had the one x factor performance, released the song and that was that. It just needs a better song than the winners single. It's something completely different when the label searches for songs for their artist. |

I don't think the general public really understands how streaming and the charts work these days. Things were a lot more instant in the past. People went to the shops or on iTunes and just bought the song once and that was it. With streaming it's all about the song being placed on the right charts and then most songs need some time to catch on. Only the biggest acts get a lot of streams immediately. X Factor did put the sound recordings from rehearsal up on Spotify for the finalists, so there was an attempt to try and build a bit of a footing for the TOP finishers on the streaming services. And Matt's song was playlisted on some of the biggest playlists, so at least he is not starting out dead cold. Of course, Matt's song will fall off the cliff at Christmas. I personally think the days of #1 winner's singles are over, unless some winner in the future gets a really good non Christmas song that catches on and goes to #1 sometime in January or something. But the UK public still expects instant results. #1 debuts for singles used to be the rule in the UK in the past, but now there are less of them. |
