Ireland to end the year as the European Union's fastest growing economy again
Seems Brexit is having no noticeable bad knock on effect to Ireland. Official CSO figures released yesterday show Ireland in 2016 will again be the EU's fastest performing economy. This will be the third year in a row Ireland will have outperformed the remaining 27 bloc. http://www.google.ie/url?sa=t&source...niMgttCGInwidQ Quote:
New CSO figures show GDP was up by 4%, compared to the previous quarter - and 6.9% higher than this time a year ago.
GNP, which many economists consider to be a better reflection of the native economy,*increased by 3.2% during the quarter. Commenting, Jennifer Banim, Assistant Director General with responsibility for Economic Statistics said: "The three largest sectors of the economy experienced growth with Industry increasing by 3.8% in volume terms, Distribution, transport, software and communications growing by 5.3% and Other services showing 1.5% growth." |

OTOH there's a prize or at least a fancy dinner for three years in a row? |

I was reading elsewhere this week that the Irish economy should continue to grow for the next few years even in the event of a 'hard Brexit' which is very good news, as the country is still emerging from recession and not back to where it needs to be yet.

Ryanair CEO, Michael O’Leary has said he is hoping for a “really hard” Brexit and insisted the UK’s divorce from the EU will mean a big boost for the Irish economy.

Overt patriotism always leaves me feeling nonplussed. When someone takes extreme pride in something that they had very little to do with, I lose focus of what they are taking pride in and query the need of the individual to express it.

Good for them as payback time has already started. Let`s see if they love the EU as much in 40 years time after paying in more than you get out. http://www.irishtimes.com/business/e...o-eu-1.2656895 |

All the media reports in the various newspapers/radio/tv are reporting it as Ireland being the star EU performer in 2016. |

Maybe this might have a bit to do with the strength of the U.K. Economy as we are by far away the biggest purchaser of Irish goods.
And of course their obscenely low corporation tax! |

And of course their obscenely low corporation tax! Don't foget the lovely Belgians. Irish exports are soaring to there. http://www.thejournal.ie/ireland-bri...66202-Jul2016/ As for our corporation tax, no harm being competitive. In fact looks like the UK seem to want to take a leaf from our book on this issue. |

It's not that long ago that you were highlighting your story that even the threat of Brexit would be a disaster for Ireland. Perhaps it's not down to the EU but to the money we lent you in your moment of extreme need.
Would you ever get over that loan, it was less than 5% of our overall bailout. And Denmark loaned us a bilateral loan and gave us a cheaper interest rate than the UK did. |

And long may it continue. Long after we are gone and the EU hoover is on desperate super-suck, Ireland can cough up, so all good.

I have always maintained Brexit would be an opportunity for the Republic and a nightmare for Northern Ireland.
