If so can anyone help? I cant make head nor tail of it! I downloaded the software. but i do not understand all this stuff with 'add-ons', do i need to download other software extensions?
I have tried youtube tutorials but they may aswell be speaking in chinese!
I just want to know the simplest steps on how to add a movie search feature to the software.

To be fair, Kodi can be used to play perfectly legal content, too.

I don't think this is what the OP is asking, to be fair

The thread title is a bit of a hint.

The head salesman of an upmarket German car distributor recently told me all about Kodi, when I told him, while waiting for my car to be serviced, that I could not get EPL from Albania any more. I never have trusted car dealers - I trust then even less now!

However I googled it and learnt a lot, which the OP could do. Put Kodi into Amazon's search and it tells you quite a lot. I haven't bought anything or really tried much but one of the search results allowed me to briefly watch some fotty through my PC before I turned it off and then watched it properly with my (dreadfully expensive subscription) Sky box.

Probably easier to search 'amazon fire Tv box kodi ' on fleabay and buy one with loads of add Ons added.

I've heard it's pretty easy once you know your way around and get used to the concept of whack a mole. So I've heard, it's all illegal so I don't touch it with a stolen barge pole

Apparently -

the crims who run cyberlockers rely on ads

they feed content to

the crims who run movie download sites (who rely on ads)

whose sites are scraped by Kodi addon writers for movie urls

who feed the Kodi punters

who don't see the ads

>> no-one sees the ads
>> the crims ain't happy
>> the advertisers ain't happy

the crims break the url scraping

>> the punters ain't happy

it's crap, it's illegal and no-one's happy

story

Perhaps Hollywood / sky should give out free kodi boxes to all - the catch? auto charge $0.99 per hour of any video / live stream watched - no rights issues, everything ever made is on kodi inc 3pm premier league matches - nice and simple - if you can't beat them, join them!

Such a pain that Kodi is still highlighted in this way because for some like me who use it for streaming their own personal media, music, films and photos it is one of the best media players around. Plex, Emby and others are good but rely on a server running separately whereas you can just have an external drive such as WD Cloud connected to your router with Kodi.

Also for me the guys at the computer audiophile forum work very hard at providing apps for high res streaming such as Tidal and Qobuz and integrating them with HQ player from Signalyst. Artwork metadata integration is also really good. So much good work is carried out legally and with legal providers of content by a whole community out there it would be a shame if Kodi was abandoned.

I have often thought about using the forked versions of Kodi, Mr Mc or SMPC instead which don't allow add ons to facilitate pirated content but it doesn't have great support for the audio side I use as highlighted above.

Unfortunately with Kodi you can't just have add ons for legal stuff without having the add ons that people can use for copyright infringed content. I just wish that the moderators when seeing a thread or O/P such as this would delete it and not leave it open for others who use all the illegal stuff to help add another user.

When they upgraded the forum, I would have liked a 'like' button.

The forum hasn't been upgraded yet, they ran a test on the new software and will implement at a later date, that's why it doesn't look any different

I've found it with the addons really useless. Difficult to seach, couldn't pause without fear of it messing up and takes ages to find a stream that plays.

I much happier with Netflix and amazon.

Yep had the same experiences, not worth the hassle really. I'd rather pay for something that works. I use it for things like USTVnow which in fairness works flawlessly.

Not sure about any of the add ons that a lot of people seem to use for these illegal strams for movies and sport but the add ons or rather should I say the official add ons that I have used for music and subtitles have worked brilliantly. As I said I find Kodi the best media server around because it plays every file, integrates well with the apps the computer audiophile guys develop again with official software.

Plex is great for people accessing their media away from home but the remote access can be a real pain, very hit and miss but in the home with Kodi I don't need an external server and when I am away I just access all my media from the WD Cloud app which has performed brilliantly whether I'm watching a movie, listening to music or viewing photos.

As far as films are concerned I see enough through the year at the cinema and if I have missed something that I really want there are plenty of offers from itunes, Amazon etc for new stuff and enough older stuff on the instant streaming from Netflix Amazon or Sky cinema where passes seem to be on a never ending offer.

Did you really think watching tv shows and movies for free was going to be legal?

If you look up the SEO Michael website, there is plenty of tutorials on there with a step by step guide for installing the add-ons. There are loads of add-on, you don't need to install them all. Maybe have a look through the top 10 and see what ones suits your needs. https://seo-michael.co.uk/top-10-add-ons/

I have to jump in here and make a couple of points clear with regards copyright infringement / streaming / torrenting.

I used to be a trading standards officer so I do know this to be correct.

It is NOT actually illegal to receive copyrighted material either physically or digitally. It IS illegal to provide said material. Therefore, torrenting, in which you become part of the hive of people sharing a file, IS illegal as you are de facto a supplier of the material to others.

It is NOT illegal to directly stream from a file sharing site so long as you are NOT also uploading that file at the same time. Most plugins in Kodi such as Exodus and Phoenix are not illegal at point of use.

It IS illegal to sell boxes already setup for the downloading of illicit content but NOT to purchase them.

The law was setup in this way many years ago so that agencies such as trading standards could make test purchases of the fake DVDs / CDs /Clothing etc without breaking the law themselves or instructing others to do so.

I'm not here to advocate using Kodi, but only to point out the misunderstanding of those who think viewing STREAMS of files is illegal in iteself.

I don't think anyone is implying that It's illegal, however It is civil offence to watch any copyrighted material this is not dependent on if you stream. Now due to nature of streaming the fact it only temporary stores data and It would next to impossible to even catch people streaming said copy righted material, or even downloading of sites like MEGA etc. This is why they've never bothered to change in laws in this area.

Pre installed KODI boxes are not illegal as of yet as no law has been passed it does not matter how these boxes are configured till the law is changed, and certainly will be in the next year or so though. You see headlines about people being arrested, however if you read the stories these have mostly fraud related charges or people selling android boxes, and actually running there own IPTV services, nothing to do with the sale of the boxes.
