For me, The Maldives.

Absolutely sublime. With most islands, you get a 360' of mirror calm, translucent turquoise sea. No litter and barely any sunbeds to spoil the white sand beaches. No traffic, no beach traders. No yachts moored all over the place to marr the views. Beautifully quiet. Tall palms with huge fruit bats flapping in and out, and a house reef just metres from the shoreline.

What about you? What's the most gorgeous place you've ever holidayed in?

Difficult to choose between the Bernese Oberland, Switzerland, the Norwegian fjords and the Grand Canyon.

Struggling to think of big landscapes.......maybe the Lake District

Cities - Venice, Paris

Quaint towns - Oberramergau, Bavaria, though it was some time ago and I expect it's a tatty tourist trap these days

More prosaically and a few hundreds yards from home is the lake in Queen Mary's Gardens, Regents Park, London. It's stunning in the early morning in the different seasons, especially in winter with ice on the lake and frost on the trees

Ober is much the same, except during the plays.

Lake Louise in the Rockies, the wedt coast of Scotland and the Gulf of Morbihan in Brittany take some beating for nature.
Florence is stunning. But Provence is my favourite humanised place.

I was going to vote for Lake Louise, so I'll vote for my alternative, Monument Valley US.

I nearly started blubbing I was that excited when I saw it, simply because of how ingrained in pop culture it is from the movies.

Yes it is, but on a very hot summer's day, the canals can get a bit whiffy.

I have been in both Summer and Winter and it is a very beautiful place. The castle was amazing both inside and out.

The fjords are just stunning and a must see. You need to visit on a cruise to to understand how big they are.
The Grand Canyon is for want of a better word just awesome.

I'm not sure what you thought was beautiful about St Petersburg. From a distance the palaces and even The Hermitage are fabulous buildings but close up everything was covered in graffiti. It's also strange driving into a city and seeing old tanks, cannons and even a submarine placed in between blocks of flats. It's mostly looked a very grey, dirty, concrete looking place imho. I'm glad I went but wouldn't bother going again.

My mum is Norwegian so every year we would spend a month in summer and 2 weeks at Christmas in Lofoten- in the artic circle. Still the most beautiful place Ive ever been to.

I have too (my Aunt lives in Bayreuth) I think I prefer Winter. It's just the most stunning scenery in any season. The legends of Ludwig II, Swan King all add to the mystery. I really find it an almost magical place.

Definitely magical and I thought Winter was best too. It was lovely riding up to castle on a horse drawn sleigh, the only downside was being covered in the horse blankets to keep warm which meant we stank like horses all day but it wouldn't put me off doing it again.

Northern Scandinavia. Really stunning. Just don't go in the summer, unless you want to be eaten alive by mosquitoes.

Closer to home, the Yorkshire Dales.

Has to be either Paradise Island, Bahamas or Kotor, Montenegro. Both near perfect places.

Honorable mention to Mount Uetliberg in Zurich though. Some incredible scenery up there.
