When and when did it become less about the vocal ability of someone .

The standard what we have just seen would be termed poor in auditions year now it's enough to get you to the final

Are we talking about 5 After Midnight? The X Factor has never been all about the vocal ability.

It used to count though! A poor singer has never won the show.

5AM should be on Britain's Got Talent, they are clearly very good dancers and performers who can sing a bit.

It's a very noteworthy thread.
I've been thinking this more and more the last 2-3 series

The show focuses on everything except for the Music.

The Voice is too much about the voice, and The X Factor doesn't focus on it enough imo, I'd like a Talent Show that could blend interest in vocal and interesting Music styles and performing ability.

Why do the voting lines open before we have heard them sing a note. I don't vote so it doesn't really matter to me but surely the idea is to watch them perform then vote, not just vote because you like them. They could put in a terrible performance on the night (I think they are all pretty terrible anyway) and have been voted for on their personalities not any talent

In previous years, Honey G would have been escorted off of the premises by security at the first audition and yet now she's been signed.

The Peter Kay parody wouldn't be funny now as the show is more far fetched than the comedy mocking it

The industry is changing to the point where we are having untalented artists shoved down our throats and too many people prop them up by falling for the marketing and contrived promo material.

It's hard to believe that Louis Tomlinson and Olly Murs are the best this country can come up with when both are very poor singers.

Ask Simon Cowell. it's his show, therefore his standards.

This is where Sky One had the perfect mix with their talent show called Must Be The Music from 2010.

It was a talent search competition but original songs were performed by the contestants. Two of the acts even got a UK top 10 singles off the back of the show (Pepper & Piano and Emma's Imagination).

Shame they never did a second series.

in the very first show when they all chose their songs, they all sang them well. its just these stupid themed weeks, whats the point of them singing disco or movie songs

You are so right ,I don't get it at all there are even threads on here scrounging for people to vote for acts when the show hasn't even come on yet . I find it absolutely no different to the 1D Tweenies voting for them regardless of how bad they sang on any given night as was criticised on here but are doing no different really

The voting lines opening at the start effectively turns it into a popularity contest rather than a singing contest. This is when the show benefits from all the manipulation, sob story promos, VT favouritism etc.

its worse when they go live, especially a noisy audience they have to shout.

That show sounds really good, do they have any Youtube videos up of the show's performances?

because the standard of acts aren't as good& they just go OTT for those they think are best regarding the praise given

Saara was brilliant. Matt struggled. 5AM should have gone weeks ago.

The ratings were really poor. Only around 300,000 watched the final. Having watched parts of it I can sort of see why it didn't appeal to a huge audience, not just because it was on Sky1.

Some of American idol's early audition episodes are on YouTube, and it's interesting to see how critical Simon was of some really great singers. Now he praises any old shit and it's truly sad.

Have you watched enough of The X Factor to make that judgement?
