There really is some nasty comments on here.
I have a lot of respect for him going ahead with his performance, it must have been the hardest thing he has done. Not only just after the death of his mother who he was very close to, but his first solo performance. I didn't really find myself listening that closely at the time, I was more willing him to keep it together. Having watched it after a few times I can't hear him out of tune or flat, it's very good for someone who's head must be all over the place and a broken heart. I also don't see him dancing like a maniac or beaming away, I just see someone pushing themselves through a performance and at no point does he look happy but must have felt some warmth from a very supportive crowd.
I never actually expected him to even do a solo release, he has always lacked confidence. Maybe Steve Aoki talked him into doing the work with him and Louis wanted to honour his mother with that song about her fighting the leukaemia. I agree Louis has never had the strongest voice in the band, Zayn, Harry and Liam take that spot each in their own area. Louis though was fab on the backing and harmonies.
A lot of people turned out to support Louis including his mother's widower, siblings and other family and all the other band members and crew and even their parents and families. Niall even flew back from the states just for the performance and back again the next day inbetween his own live commitments.
The fact he did have such support shows that those close to him and his mother supported him going ahead with the performance so who is anyone else to judge. No way he would have done it for financial gain, one performance and single is peanuts compared with his other earnings of millions a year. He also doesn't need any publicity, he is still dodging that. This is the guy who rarely stayed in the swanky 5* hotels while touring preferring to sleep on the tour bus parked inside the arenas and spends huge amounts of charities while living a modest life himself.
