He hasn't got the strongest voice, but he was brave to perform tonight.

He went ahead as his mum was looking forward to that performance, as a tribute. He was very brave. His mother was also a remarkable woman.

Why on earth does anyone think they can dictate how he grieves?

Am I the only one who finds this all excruciatingly Odd!?

Surely most other young guys in this situation would be grieving at this time and not peddling thier latest product, grinning like a Cheshire Cat whilst Cowell and Co. Give him clichèd comments about his barely cold mother.

Beyond disturbing. Yeesh.

That is just all kinds of wrong. His mother wanted him to sing his dance oriented brand new single....as a tribute to her...days after she died????

He can't sing in tune and it was awful.

It is awful to lose a parent but show some class lad. Forget the self promotion for a while and grieve in private

His mum apparently asked he keep the performance. Maybe he didnt want to let her down.

His mum was a very beautiful and courageous woman. She did incredible work for childrens charities. He did her proud tonight.

Grinning like a Cheshire cat? Did you watch the same Louis as I did? He couldn't even talk. Dermot also skipped the conversation bit knowing that would be too difficult for him. Louis was brave, he did it for his mother.

True, I didnt see him grinning. In fact at one point I thought he might cry.

Learn more about Louis, he has never been out for self promotion. As for it being dance orientated, listen to the words, very poignant. Also be aware his mother was called Johanna Darling. Some very meaningful lyrics in the circumstances.

It's oddly fascinating to read so many people apparently knowing exactly what his mother wanted him to do and what he should be feeling.

I assume you were all there at her bedside as she passed to confirm such instructions ?

I've certainly got no time for One Direction or any of their solo efforts, but he has my respect and admiration for going through with his performance when he must be completely torn apart inside. When you're singing the words "Just Hold On" about your mother who you lost not 72 hours ago, do you really expect him to be pitch perfect ?

Some people need to drop the keyboard warrior "it's cool to be cynical" BS and actually develop some human emotion once in a while ..

I really have no desire to hear Louis sing but I respect him for getting up on the stage tonight so soon after losing his mum. Must have been incredibly difficult for the lad

Everyone grieves in their own way, it's an incredibly personal thing. And it's 2016, I thought we were past the nonsense of being concerned about what is seen as 'proper' and more understanding of individual differences in how we deal with tragedies like this.

Very brave of him to perform tonight, it must have been one of the hardest things he's ever done.

^ This a million times. Some people need to be dragged into the 21st century. The other to remember is that some people are just nasty people who lack basic empathy. Let his singing be for tonight, that's what I'd suggest.

He's never been a great singer...he was better than usual and his singing has improved. I like the single, i thought it was a good performance and a great start for his solo career. A performance on the final is a big deal - It's what happens basically when you sign to Cowell's label, Niall, Zayn & Liam take note!

It's not for anyone to say if he should have performed tonight or not under sad circumstances, totally his decision but fair enough if it was a tribute.

Zayn and Louis No.1 & No.2 this week in the charts?
