In what parallel universe is a different dance in a different week of a different year of the competition in any way relevant?

It is saying 'this is better' and the score said it too. It wasn't though! YouTube views for it are pretty poor and if you ask any Strictly viewer which jives they remember (and especially if you ask them next year) Ore won't be mentioned anywhere near as much as Jay and Jill if at all.
It's just a bit rude and dismissive. Jay didn't have to be mentioned. If Jay's jive will be more remembered, then one of the reasons for that will be because it came out of the blue. As I said before, his previous dances weren't that memorable. Whereas with Ore, his American Smooth the week before he did the jive had been well received, so it wasn't as much of a surprise. Had he not done the American Smooth when he did, it would be praised a lot more. And in any case, why shouldn't Jay be mentioned? He's not immune to any criticism, and his jive shouldn't be considered to be so good, that it'll never be bettered. It comes across like there's a sense of entitlement. |

He had only done two dances before the jive! The cha cha cha which, being the first week, was a bit tentative but still had all the requirements. The second week he did an exquisite waltz which I found memorable!

That fruity hat was worth 5 points, Kevin's hair 10 points, the rest is for samba.

They had to over-egg that pudding, Louise's Samba was one of the worst dances this series and she should've been in the DO.

It's all subjective. If some people think that Ore's jive was better than Jay's, then what's the problem? Why shouldn't people have that opinion?

Last year we got sour faces when he won .. a couple of the judges even went so far as to intimate it was the wrong result which they hadn't ever said before. This is just more of the same. Ore can be given 10s in week 4 ... they make it up and manipulate as they go along but to answer the original question yes, it's absolutely baffling how Louise got 36 for her Samba which was truly awful. My OH cringed when he watched it back yesterday and had to fast forward it out of embarrassment for Louise. The judges only thought it was one mark shy of Danny's samba!. Truly shocking. |

I was talking about the show referring to it as memorable. I don't remember them ever mentioning it afterwards, (not including when Jay would be on ITT talking about it and Karen's Choreography Corner).Quote:
There is no need to put in a remark that is a dig at a former contestant... no need at all. You can love a dance, think it's the best one you've seen and say all those things but why would you dismiss a previous contestant or try and trivialize their efforts. I can't remember any other time that's happened and yes, I do think that Jay is as entitled as any other Strictly celeb to be respected.
They didn't say anything bad about Jay's jive at the time last year, and they didn't say anything bad about it after Ore danced it. Saying "move over, Jay" isn't saying that they thought it was bad. Also, they referred to the "holy trinity of jives", adding Ore's jive in with Jill's and Jay's. Hardly a negative comment. Len has also said that Jay's jive was one of his most memorable dances from any series. But let's not let facts get in the way.It is perfectly acceptable to both love two different things. It's like someone saying, "I love them both, but if I had to choose, I'd pick this one over that one. It's not making a dig at the latter over the former; just saying which one you prefer. |

[quote=ABCZYX;84888690]Sorry, but what does that have to do with anything? Why does it matter how many dances he did before the jive?
Make your mind up....you've just made reference to Ores jive following the AS. Relevance? |

Jay was last year. He won. It was a different dance. He danced in week 3, Louise danced in the SF.
All future contestants aren't competing with him, just like he wasn't competing with Jill, or Mark or Alesha. People need to let him go already. Quote:
Tell Ore that!

Make your mind up....you've just made reference to Ores jive following the AS. Relevance? Gill P had said that Jay had only done two dances before the jive, which made it look like they were saying the reason why the dances Jay did before the jive aren't really talked about a lot is because he'd only done two. Sophie Ellis Bextor's Charleston and Jake Wood's Salsa, for example, were both their second dances, and they were talked about a lot during their respective series. |
