Agreed, but it's a low tactic that really could appeal to the public.

... as if the xenophobes and nutters that have been evident since the referendum needed any further excuses.

Would it be seen as an anti-Brexit vote if Saara does win?

Nicole's not from the UK, so she might not get the climate she's saying that in. She might not be thinking of the recent Brexit.
Yeah, the US current political climate is so much more accepting...

Seriously, does anyone really think Matt Terry has any chance of success in the next 12-18 months if he wins The X Factor tomorrow?

I still can't help but think he'll end up going the same way as Ben Haenow.
I think Matt will be a great success whether he wins or not. I would buy his music, can't say the same about the others although I am sure 5AM will do well with the younger generation. Sorry they've gone, loved their energy.

I thought that was horrible. I hope Saara wins. She gets my vote. Matt is boring.
I'm the total opposite. Love Matt, can't even bear to watch Saara, may the best one win but good luck to both

I missed last night but I can't believe she said that. Tactical but a low blow.

The words she said was: "England, please get behind your very own....Matt Terry". It did sound like she was putting out a message. I dunno.

Oh come on, Louis urged Ireland to get behind Jedward, Scotland has been asked to vote for their act, this is nothing new.

Scotland isn't thought of as a foreign/abroad country though. Anyway, whoever wins I'll be okay with it.

You're right. My mistake. Obviously Nicole Scherzinger reads Mein Kampf in her dressing room.

If she said that, then it is something she no right to say that. I hope she has the grace to apologise (if she said it that is )

I used to like Nicole, but she's lost my vote now.
I agree. I've got absolutely no problem with judges supporting their own act or critisising another performer if they sang poorly but she was basically saying people shouldn't vote for Saara because she's from Finland. That's just plain wrong. XF is meant to be open to everyone. What's the point in letting them enter and then coming out with comments like that.

Something like 'I want everyone to vote for Matt' would have been fine but 'England should get behind their own and vote for Matt' was out of line. Implying we'd be wrong to vote for Saara.

Saara deserves to win, best singer, best performer. Isn't that what is most important

It's a particularly ridiculous comment coming from Nicole, considering how much more popular she is in the UK compared to her own country. I'm reminded of her weird behaviour at 6CC when Saara sung in French.

You only feel that way because you want Saara to win. I admit it's a tactic but I don't see anything wrong with it. It's not racist to play on patriotism, and it's not racist for people to vote for Matt because he's English.

There's a huge difference between saying vote for Matt because he's English versus don't vote for Saara because she's foreign.

There's been more racism happening since Brexit happened and that's why that might have a bigger impact. I just think that maybe it was used because of all the racist incidents that have happened after Brexit. A dig made about Saara in the knowledge that some in Britain have become more racist since Brexit happened. Saying this though, I'll be happy whoever wins.

It was definitely a calculated action designed to leverage the recent resentment towards foreigners. Rather than just a thoughtless comment by a mixed race foreigner who is not racist.

There's very little difference in my opinion because what she said did imply don't vote for Saara because she's foreign.

If Saara was English she wouldn't have made that comment.

It was clearly a desperate attempt to try and get people to forget which act is better and question whether they want a foreign winner.

Prove it. Back up the allegation that this is deliberate racism. Or stop talking nonsense.

Apparently at dress rehearsals, Nicole has been urging voters to Take Back Control and Make England Great Again by voting for Matt Terry.
