I think Matt will be a great success whether he wins or not. I would buy his music, can't say the same about the others although I am sure 5AM will do well with the younger generation. Sorry they've gone, loved their energy.
I agree, the only other ones I think would get some where are Emily and 5AM. I think Matt is fab

I loved how she backtracked and quickly added in Scotland and Wales and Ireland. I think it was quite a sneaky and underhand move. The English Vote!
At least she actually acknowledged Scotland, Wales etc, unlike most Americans who refer to the whole UK as "England"

And, not to nitpick, but is it really such a bad thing to say, especially when other judges have routinely said things like, "I want Scotland to vote for Emily", "Everyone in Liverpool should vote for...." etc?

BiB - It's contextual IMO. Neither Scotland or Liverpool have the same history of imperialism as England has. Hence Scottish nationalism or Liverpool regionalism don't have quite the same toxic associations as English nationalism.

Appealing to a regional vote makes some sense, but Nicole was appealing for the entire country to "support their own". Support them against who Nicole and why? The English 5am? I'm guessing not. She even added Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland so she could repeat it a second time.

To me that sounded like she was implying then that we shouldnt support Saara because she's from Finland Poor form imo.

You only feel that way because you want Saara to win. I admit it's a tactic but I don't see anything wrong with it. It's not racist to play on patriotism, and it's not racist for people to vote for Matt because he's English.

There's a huge difference between saying vote for Matt because he's English versus don't vote for Saara because she's foreign.
BIB, I think it is to be honest, it's like when alot of people say that the Scottish just vote for their own, the only reason that any Scottish person would vote for their own just because they're Scottish would be because they don't like English people, or the other foreign acts in the lineup to their own (by the way Scottish people that's the people that vote for that reason, I know that most of you don't do that) but the people that moan about the "Scottish Mafia" should then be concerned that a much bigger populated country just gave Matt the crown because his English, which even if it played a small part in his vote it still made a huge difference because of how close they both was to each other in the vote.

Sorry, I should have made it more clear. I was being sarcastic. Of course she's not racist. She's a mixed race American woman who actually seems completely lovely. I'm with you on this. Calling her racist is an absurd reaction.
So mixed race American women can't be racist now?

Do you not keep up with the PC trends? Of course any mixed race can't be racist. Just like women can't be sexist, etc.

When BLM chant "Kill all white people", that's not racist, because they're black. Logic!

But that's all rubbish aswell.

I'm not even saying Nicole is racist, but the reason for why she can't be sounds ridiculous.

It doesn't really matter anyway. Saara apparently said in an interview before the show had finished that she would prefer second place because it would give her freedom to choose the best deal. So I suppose coming second is the position she wanted.

Except I don't think they *do* get the freedom to choose the best deal for them though. As far as I'm aware Syco get first refusal on *any* of the acts the get to the final. So if Syco want to sign Saara she can't choose to sign with, say, Universal instead. Only if Syco and/or Sony pass on her would she be able to sign with another company.
