How low must the ratings fall before they call it a day

Not surprising really with the poor standard of the finalist.

Ratings are deceptive in the world of catch up and recording live TV.

Not great numbers by any means but I'd say the total figure would at least be closer to 7-8 million

Strictly/I'm A Celeb/Bake Off/Planet Earth still own their ass though

Next year, Simon Cowell just needs to put 12 incredible singers through to the live shows.

Treat all the finalists like they could be a winner and let the public decide (exactly like how they did with Pop Idol series 1). If the talent is sky high next year, word of mouth will get the viewing figures up.

Look at how popular Saara has become since Disco Week. If all contestants delivered that quality of vocal performance each week then the public would love it.

Instead we get 5AM, Honey G, Dumb & Dumber and people wonder why Planet Earth II is getting double the viewers? Makes perfect sense to me.

More talent = more viewers.

My thoughts exactly, in my eyes this is only way they could turn the show around.

I think in general, people are watching less live TV these days than they did in lets say, 2010. The introduction of catch up services and things like Netflix has really took off in the last few years, so I'm really not too surprised by that number.

If I was an advertiser, I would be looking at a discounted rate to advertise around the programme in future.

I was surprised to read an article that said more of their target audience watched Planet Earth than XFactor.

Good idea in principal, but we both know it will never happen.

I agree with all of this, but that didn't save American Idol where they had a lot of talented singers. I think they need a year like they had when Cheryl first joined the show. Just have four or five massive voices, one jokey act and a few more unique singers. I think that was the right balance. The year after was great when Matt won as well. I think strip back some of the drama and high production values before the live shows as well. Just keep it simple and throw all the money into the lives (but not with silly dancers and for every performance).

On the plus side, over 1 million watched in Finland. Seems proportionally, it's much more popular over there now that it is here.

Well The Voice will be coming on soon, so we will see what kind of audience that attracts.

...but that doesn't explain why Strictly Come Dancing, Michael McIntyre's Big Show and, of all programmes, Planet Earth II are getting almost double the viewers.

Don't forget many people might be watching these shows too on catch up services, but they're still pulling in nearly double the viewers each weekend.

I predict less than they got on the BBC

and the fact that they will not interact with anyone they do not turn for, will turnoff viewers further.

Ihave a feeling that the viewing figures may be quite good actually especially with someone as good as Jennifer Hudson on the panel rather the jokers that we have on XF

If people in the UK don't know who Jennifer Hudson is then they are not really into music IMO.

I take it you're a fan of J-Hud?

So are you telling me my parents are not really into music? Because my dad loves singers like Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Dean Martin but wouldn't know who J-Hud is.

Just because you know who she is, doesn't mean half the UK population will too.
