Purple Rain.
Who's idea was it to cover and murder this Prince classic? He'll be turning in his grave! Good guitar though!

There's no beating the original version.

I like Matt, but that was a strange choice. I can't see it working with anyone but Prince's vocals.

I love a lot of Prince songs but absolutely can't stand Purple Rain.
For me, it's him at his most pompous, overblown worst and is the soundtrack of him disappearing up his own backside. There are so many of his songs that are far superior |

I notice it's not on their YouTube page yet. Prince was overly protective of his material although I do hope it does go on because overall it wasn't that bad.

I thought Nicole was great. Matt was fairly forgettable

I can't stand the song - or BR to be honest. Mind you anything was better than the 5 AM performance. Did someone pull out so they got landed with Louisa - as I can't believe she would be first choice to sing a duet on final night.

I hate anyone singing "Purple Rain" on The X Factor because I always compare it to Ruth Lorenzo singing it when she was on The X Factor. I don't think anyone can beat her rendition of the song, apart from Prince himself (when he was still around).

I'm pretty sure Prince himself acknowledged at some point that Purple Rain was a pretty calculated grab for mainstream rock penetration in the US at a time when radio was heavily segregated. It's far from my favourite Prince song too (that would probably be Girls And Boys), it pretty much remains an accessory to the main body of his work in my mind.
I want it played at my funeral. |

You need a strong voice to do justice to Purple Rain. Matt doesn't have that. It wasn't great.

Absolutely. He decided to write some stadium rock. Purple Rain is the result.
I want it played at my funeral.
