The Digital Spy gaming news page will cease from December 16 as part of the main site's decision to downsize.

The forum seems unaffected.

No loss, they nick most of the gaming articles from threads in here anyway.

I have never even used the gaming section of the main site, The gaming news seems to be better on sites like IGN and Twitter.

DS does seem to have changed what it's about.

I think it's going to become a Friend's appreciation site.

Well there are much better gaming news web sites out there I just hope they don't kill the forums.
On a side note I think they will probably still carry some limited gaming stuff in the tech section.

Edit; I just noticed the link at the top about the forum changes and I think some of them sound interesting and very welcome.

It already has. They don't half publish a lot of articles on a show that ended twelve years ago, must be averaging at almost one per day now.

The amount of gif-heavy list-style/Buzzfeed-esque content has also increased massively the last year or so too, hardly the original blueprint for an entertainment/media/tech news website. I can see why though, it's a bunch of interns shitting out aimless, meaningless content because they're not paid enough to do anything more substantial, and nor do Hearst want them to, because being an imitation Buzzfeed is cheap.

It's true what they say, you pay peanuts, you get monkeys. No matter, I get media and technology news that matters from other sites that actually employ real journalists. These boards are the last vestige of a site dying on its arse because clickbait and airheaded guff about reality TV is easier, quicker and cheaper to produce despite the majority of readers having no interest in it.

That's a shame as they post a lot of gaming news for what is more a TV entertainment site at heart. There's a lot of competition for game news out there though and I doubt that DS is one of the top choices for most gamers, even those on here.

But the people that write the articles aren't. The later stories (such as Mario Run review published yesterday) will still be getting clicks, so no doubt it will hang around for a short while, albeit with little to no new content.

Yep. I think they were just backing up the database or something, which seems weird considering they've not immediately moved to updating the software... It could create days of missing posts the longer they leave it, depending on what's actually being planned...

Does anyone actually read any of the content on digitalspy's main site? It's all wafer-thin guff written by hacks and always at least a day out of date. I only come here because the forums are so well populated.

No, I was looking at it after midnight and I'm certainly not their target audience. Soap obsessed. All I saw was Eastenders, Coronation Street, X Factor and Holloyoaks everywhere. With snippets of The Apprentice and Doctor who. I watch none of this type of stuff.

No. Not wishing to twist the knife for the guys that have lost their jobs, but after reading some of the drivel that was written I avoided even the gaming section.

Gaming is better off served by sites like this:

http://www.ign.com
http://www.gamespot.com

Plus even the Metro website has a games section:

http://www.metro.co.uk
