Do those who perpetuate this crap ever step outside of their homes? Seriously, Christmas is all over the place at this time of year. Just go into any shopping centre and see it for yourself. Where is the evidenced it's being eradicated as the gullible and far right keep saying? Oh wait, there is none. Still, why let minor details get in the way of a good old-fashioned rant about "PC gawn mad" and those pesky Muslims stamping out Christian values and traditions eh?

Just to mention, lots of Christians don't like the word "Xmas", it takes the Christ out of Christmas....

They obviously don't realise that X is the first letter of the Greek word for Christ: Χριστός

No you're not.

"Chav; a young lower-class person typified by brash and loutish behaviour and the wearing of (real or imitation) designer clothes."

If a person meets the above description, then they're a chav. Why do you feel compelled to stick up for brash, loutish people?

Really?

The opening post was complaining about the treatment of one put upon minority by putting down another put upon minority, you can't see the double standards in that?

Sticking up for? I thought I was partaking in the values of equality and tolerance, by not tarring the whole of a minority because of the actions of a minority within it.

Since when did loud and brash people become a specific minority group?

Or is that just on DS?

You could say when a phrase was coined to describe and isolate them as an "other".

If you dress and act differently to most people then you're isolating yourself as an 'other'.

There are phrases to coin just about everyone.

Many years ago Natwest ran a campaign that had animated piggy banks in it. When that ended, some people said the bank pulled it because of complaints from Jews.

Muslims hadn't been invented yet.

There's always been this type of urban myth. All that changes is the target.

Well... if it comes to that just about any descriptive term about any subset of society would by the new Staunchy Code be a specific minority group... and any negative association whatsoever would, by Staunchy's Law, be a deigration of a minority... doubly so if it's in a thread laughing about right wingers self pity regarding the pretend War on Christmas.

So... have we had the Prison Food vs Old People's Food story yet... tis the season.

I think it's the assumption that only poorer people are like this when in reality people from all across the board and from all walks of life can be racist, sexist, homophobic etc.

Most of the stories are of course rubbish. And usually when there is some truth in the story, it's usually some pc plonker who has decided to intervene in case someone I offended. Not the actual minorities themselves.

Our son's school did change the nativity playboy a winter festival one year to represent the multpile faiths in the school. Of course people kicked off, and it was changed back the year after.

Christ, never seen such an uproar about the use of the word Chav.

Does that go for people of certain religions too? Would you say that on here? What would the response be?

That's true, although I think the majority would see folk such as Wayne Rooney or Katie Price to be chavs, both of whom are very wealthy.

Of course I would, and I will - if you dress and act differently to most people for reasons of religion, class, subculture, or whatever, then you are 'other'. By definition.

Shall we see what the response is?

Uproar?

l'm just seeing people who claim to be tolerant and inclusive of others being hypocritical by rubbishing a minority they don't like.

Next it'll be hipsters that are deemed a minority group worthy of special protection.

Only if it's in a thread debunking some other right wing bugbear... there is a time and a place for these sudden desires to go "politically correct" to highlight a "double standard" don'cha know.

Why not? What makes one group worthy of mustn't offend them treatment and other groups open to ridicule and denigration? Shouldn't we be nice to everyone no matter what group they belong to?
