There was definite surprise about being in the dance off from both of them.

There was a sort of pause after the question from Tess where I think they were struggling to say something.

With only four couples left perhaps they should not have expected to get through.
Well it was a pretty stupid question Tess asked them, what kind of response was she expecting, all smiley and them saying happy to be there. I don't think so!!!!

I just hope Danny does not loose confidence!

They were disappointed as anyone would be. I thought Danny was very gracious.

No , what you said was " there was definite surprise " But in fact you cant see anything definite because you cant read their mind
I saw surprise at being in the dance off, that's how I interpreted their reaction. Your right that might not be the case, but for me it was.

It does not matter they are in the final and could still win.

What did you expect her to say, "I am so glad to be in the dance off, I don't deserve to win"
Well clearly not but that's rather taking it to the extreme!

Like Christopher, I would've thought she might have wanted to be a bit more diplomatic considering she was up against three other excellent couples ... but I do appreciate that it's very difficult to think of what to say in that situation.

Probably because 12 weeks or so of getting through unscathed, even after the rubbish ribbon incident dance- foxtrot was it?, made them feel pretty invincible. I though it a little bit too ' what us ??' The reaction of the studio audience was a bit OMG too!

Tess was on form tonight.

"How do you feel to be in the dance off for the first time in the semi-final?"
Not great, Tess. Not great.

"Which dance have you chosen to repeat?"
[Oti looks down at her AS dress] We're still deciding between the Charleston and the samba. Or maybe we'll just do some yoga improv.

"How do you feel to be in the dance off now, compared to how you felt the first time?"
Still not great, Tess.

"Aw, are you crying? Poor Claudia and AJ are crying!"
Claudia and AJ are the most calm and collected contestant/ pro pairing in the studio.

"It's time for your last dance. Shall I take your tissues back? AJ, do you want to keep yours? Aw, he wants to keep his!"
AJ puts the tissue in his pocket. You know, like normal adult humans do when they have a soggy tissue and no bin nearby.

It's probably not entirely Tess' fault but she did end up in some silly conversations tonight!

Um, thread topic? I thought they reacted like most people do when they're in the dance off for the first time. It took them both a few seconds to collect themselves enough to answer a question. Danny actually said they'd discussed the possibility of them going out and being glad they'd at least be going out dancing their AS again, which they obviously both enjoyed.

i thought it was an interesting moment. even the vainest of contestants usually has a 'could have been anyone' gracious response on standby for the near inevitability of such a moment.

but not danny, oh no. he really had not given it a moments thought. i wondered if he was going to ask for a recount. oti probably had to give him a good talking to to ensure he caught her after the final throw...

I was saying last night, because of his looks, I thought he'd be big headed but quite the opposite; I really like him.
Me too

Well maybe you just misread it ? Could that be I wonder ? I saw disappointment
Yes, huge disappointment. It must be quite crushing ... Claudia looked the same. Gutted! It's a horrible time to be in the dance off and a horrible time to go home. Just missing out on the final.

What utter rubbish. Danny has said in previous weeks he has trouble actually being himself and so doesn't know how to act sometimes but he is always gracious after the fact and it's obvious he lacks confidence in himself - Oti has said so.

Maybe this week though, when he had two fantastic dances, he thought "You know what, I really should be in the final at this stage" because he should! I think this week has hit home for him that the Judges will make or break you and sometimes giving it your all is not good enough - that'd be enough to shock anyone.

Me three. Must admit at the beginning thought I'd find him annoying and perhaps a bit self-focused.

Very pleasantly surprised how down to earth & actually very modest he is and at times not all that confident actually, while constantly paying full credit to Oti (and the other damcers). Have also appreciated how much he's clearly loving the experience.

Thought Danny and Oti were both very gracious with Claudia and AJ at the end there.

As for the OP, I was suprised when Oti said she was shocked but Danny put an end to it quite quickly to say they'd discussed the possibility that the AS may well be their final dance. I don't think it was arrogance on either part but more disappointment.

I thought Danny was very humble, and more worried about Oti's feelings.
I agree. I didn't see surprise from Danny. He looked very disappointed, as did Claudia, which is perfectly normal.

Danny did say he and Oti had discussed the possibility of them going out and he was glad they would be going on a favourite dance. He didn't sound at all confident they would get through.

Oti just blurted out what she was thinking as they had never been in the DO before. This is real life, not a movie - sometimes the reality of the moment means you can't give a rehearsed "diplomatic" answer, and thank goodness for that.

Well no, I don't actually. I said "MAYBE" he thinks that. Personally, I don't think he does.

Every single week, the first thing he does when he's got through is thanks everybody who voted for him, and then he does it again in the Clauditorium. He's a humble bloke.

yes he did gather himself together for a comment eventually. probably after a swift kick in the shins from oti. but there was silence in response to the first enquiry, and you know what they say. silence speaks volumes. especially if you are listening carefully. as i was.

But you said - but not danny, oh no. he really had not given it a moments thought.. So perhaps when you were listening you only heard what you wanted to hear.
