The song choices have been dire for years, the only inspired choice in recent memory was getting Fleur East to do Uptown Funk before it had even had radio play, but even that song is more of a Disco tribute than a 'new' sound.

She was flaming middle of the road at her peak 40 years ago. Kids then were listening to punk etc, not music their grans played.

Is this cabaret garbage from both finalists what the kiddywinks are listening to nowadays?
I suspect not. Which begs the question, who on earth is this nonsense aimed at? |

Give me old fashioned material over Beyonce or any of that booty boom boom bollox. Thankfully to the likes of Spotify, I am able to listen to my type of music and get introduced to new artists and bands without ever having to even look at the latest now that's what I call sh!t release.

You think your music is new? Hahaha
Music goes in cycles, like fashion. Half the songs you think are new are either covers or based on previous songs. All I can say is "oops upside your head" haha |

So much modern pop is so retro anyway. Quote:

The show is old and tired. The judges are old and tired. The song choices are old and tired. As soon as I heard I' didn't know my own strength' it all comes back to Cowell and his obsession with Whitney, Michael Jackson, Mariah etc.

It is the the people that vote the winners on this show. They don't know any different.
My other half only listens to modern ballads, hell she loves Westlife & you don't get much MOR than them. But yes you guessed it she voted for Matt every week. With me given the choice of Emily or a screechy shouty diva, then an act like Emily would always get my vote. |

The typical MOR band is surely The Dead Hedgehogs?

I suspect not. Which begs the question, who on earth is this nonsense aimed at? It's aimed at families. It's a reality show - just a bit of fun. You're taking it too seriously. After 13 years how many winners are still going? |

Randy Crawford was granny music then and still is now. Not relevant to today's POP market whatsoever. Grannies like this not modern kids. So why dress it up as a search for the new POP sensation?
The problem with XF's song choices isn't the age of songs (believe it or not, there are many good songs written more than 5 years ago, and there are plenty of poor songs that have bothered the charts recently), it's the recycling of certain songs/artists/genres rather than trying to be a bit more imaginative with the choices. It also doesn't help matters when they slow perfectly good songs down to a funereal pace. |
