The little fries i had were in a cup but they also put an extra scoop of chips in the bag.
I found there was more than enough for one person albeit very salty. |

We have a Five Guys in Glasgow, and a cheeseburger is, I believe, £8.99.
I do think that's a lot of money for a burger, but I only ever have it as a treat, and I don't eat chips/fries, so I just need to get a drink with it. I wonder if the prices are increased in London? I love the drinks machine, and all the different combinations you can get, even in sugar-free varieties. Free refills, and no need to explain to the counter staff why 3 ice cubes is not enough. |

Even taking this into account it's way off, when McDonalds, BK etc seem to be pretty much in line with the UK.

I was hungover and in London for work so popped into Kings Cross Five Guys before heading north to try it, and it hit the spot. Yes it was expensive but so worth it. Not a weekly or monthly purchase by any stretch but now and then, definitely.

So I'm a pauper, I wish you'd tell the tax man that.
I like nice things, especially good food, but I'm not an idiot. I especially like good meat. Very good meat. And I will pay a premium for it. 45 day dry aged sirloin beef. Fine pork, quality chicken from artisan sources. I also hot smoke meat to add variety. I make my own bacon, I will never buy bacon again. NOT that I can't afford it, but after too many over salted super market packets of bacon. And being left winds at the cost of proper bacon from the likes of Dukeshill I will make my own for about a fifth of the cost, and the taste is far superior. And eat a lot of it. I eat game meat regularly, probably twice a week, whilst not cheap it's better value than most meat from ordinary butchers As I have said in this very thread I like a burger too, a good burger, but to me paying 10 quid and more for a burger is well idiocy. I am quite willing to pay one heck of a lot more than even the £20.00 mentioned earlier for good food and I know just the places to go. But I would never pay that sort of money for a burger. So please don't make assumptions about my ability to afford a burger or my willingness to pay for quality. Or I may be forced to question if its pretentious to say 'I bought a twenty quid hamburger last week because I've got a platinum card' My butcher does it regularly if asked.

Just the burger is enough to fill me up, no way could I eat a burger and regular fries, that'd be like two meals, the portions are big.
OP, I think you should just try one, they're really good. ![]() |

Does the server bring your food to you?
Or is it like McDonalds, full of daft children and chavs? Quote:
Looking at their website, and bearing in mind I would have the standard fries, rather than the 'little' portion, my order would have come to £16.80 - which is closer to twenty quid than I would like.

It is bloody expensive but it is bloody nice
Also a small fries is easily enough for 2 so that saves a couple of quid if there's 2 of you |

Right, I decided to give it a go and damn the expense (it is Christmas) and my quick review is as follows...the burger was lovely, fresh and tasty. It was oozing with fat, but it's a burger, so what do you expect? The chips were less impressive. There were plenty of them ( in the smallest portion) but I wasn't overly impressed by the taste. On the whole, I'd say it is undoubtedly expensive but I think if I went again, I'd just have a burger and a drink (so that would save me money).

It's called English, we invented it, therefore however we spell it, pronounce it or decide to name it, is correct. They're chips.

No they're not. Chips are what you get in a chip shop. They're large. Fries are smaller and thinner and in fast food restaurants. They're fries.

You won't find a chip shop selling the things you'rei referring to as chips. The things you're referring to are called fries and they've landed over here from the US where, if you ask for a bag of chips you get a bag of crisps. So, chips is chips and fries is fries unless you're a Yank when chips is crisps. Simple. |

Think I shall go to Five Guys tomorrow for a Christmas treat after reading this thread
![]() What I like is the app so I can do my order on my phone at my own pace in advance and then it is pretty much ready as soon as I get there, plus the free peanuts if they still do those! I'm one of those people that will get every topping on the burger so that helps my justify the cost slightly I would probably visit 2-3 times a year, quite surprised how much they've expanded in the UK over recent years though |

That's a waste of wagyu beef, lobster etc sticking in a bun and calling it a burger.
You've got question the source of the wagyu, the whole treatment and preparation of the meat makes it beyond stupid to mince it up and make it into a burger. The texture and marbling, the softness of the flesh is supposed to part of the attraction of wagyu beef, so what do you do get rid of all that by mincing it all up and making it into a patty. That is madness. Obviously a lot of profit to be made

I went to one once. Nothing special. Nothing at all special. I mean the jalapeños were of slightly higher quality than you would get in Subway but that's literally the only thing I can think to say, actually though, now I think about it, they weren't at all generous with them. I certainly wasn't impressed and would have to be getting it for free to go there again.

The one in Newcastle is horrible
I walk past it everyday and there's always rubbish covering the tables and bags of potatoes and boxes of cups piled up by the door. I ate there once and the burger was OK if on the expensive side but I was put off by my server who had sauce stains and sweat patches all over his t shirt. The place is rarely more than 1/4 full and seems to have become the chavs favourite eatery. It's next door to both a BK and a McD with a Bryon and a couple of other burger places within a 2 minute walk, they're always much busier. One to cross of your list if your visiting Newcastle! |

I refer you to the answer I gave to someone else. As far as I'm concerned, if it is a chopped up potato, deep fried in oil, it's a chip. End of story. You can disagree me with me as much as you want but I'm not going to budge on this point.
"You're not listening to me! They're CHIPS you bloody moron!! They're not WEDGES and they are not FRIES!!! They're CHIPS and I am NOT budging!!" 👺 |
