James Arthur's year was the worst, and I think this year was better than last simply because of Saara (best act since 2008).

Yep - only watched her performances via YouTube.
Watched a few of the others on there but all so samey, boring, bland and/or just plain bad.
Can't believe I sat through two hours of it tonight just to see the predictable ending that I was completely expecting
Oh, well... it reminded me why I don't bother watching the show any more. The adverts and padding is absolutely horrific - I thought I was in America for a moment.
How can anyone enjoy such a stop-start show like that?

Yes.
One of the main drags in the James Arthur year (aside from him, obviously) was that Ella Henderson got voted out early.
As you say, Saara made this one watchable. Thank god she made it to the final.
Worst year ever, how predictable, its like Ben Vs Fleur all over again, wrong winner after wrong winner...

2016 is definitely up there as one of the worst series overall. Even Saara couldn't really make the whole thing bearable.
I still think 2012 was the absolute worst series but 2016 is on par with 2007 for joint second worst series. 2014 and 2015 aren't that far behind either.
X Factor really has gone to pot these last couple of years.

Never have understood the attacks on James Arthur as a singer, I think he has a great voice. I can totally understand why some might dislike him as a person, though I'm not one of them.

Not for me. There were many good acts and I loved most of them but Matt most of all

On the contrary, James was my favourite by default. It was the combined force of Jahmene, Christopher, Union J and Rylan that made 2012 the worst series to date.
That much crap in the final 5 shouldn't be allowed. I'm pretty sure 2012 was the year when all the great singers were kicked out early and then when Ella was eliminated, that sealed the deal for me.

I still think Louisa and series 12 was the worst series ever as all she did was shout, and you was made to feel like a bad person for not supporting her by the show, they even gave her angel wings in one of her performances, she really killed that series imo, and Che being such a dud at the lives and then taking third place didn't help either, even though I know that he was a victim himself.
Besides the Fleur fiasco I think that series 11 was a step in the right direction out of the modern X Factor's as Andrea was more like Saara than he was a Sam Bailey on the Diva singing instead of shouting, Lauren offered a good style of Pop and pulled it off alot better than Emily in this series imo, and some of the acts that went early had decent voices and could've been really good if given the right material like Paul Akister and Jack Walton.
Series 12 and 13 didn't follow the series 11 system which I think has hurt them imo, Series 13 has had a few decent singers at the lives, but overall they were completely mismanaged (even Saara had some terrible song choices)

2012 series has had a lot of success... James,Jahmene & Ella all scored #1 albums... Union J and Lucy both had top 10 albums and singles. and Rylan became a huge TV sensation.. so when it comes to success the 2012 series did quite well after the show. 6/12 artists finding some kinda success is good for X-Factor standards.
Its been a shocking series,for the first time in many years i didnt even vote, The question is what does Cowell do with the X Factor?, i really do believe that something has to be done now it can't continue like this every year!.
I think he has a really good voice, he's a great singer but he's totally bland and generic, so I don't see the relevance to X Factor... Although it's the same story every year.
Saara was a better singer and a little bit different, so she's much more X factor. But as time has makes no difference if you win or not, in fact, you might say it's better NOT TO WIN.
