Store a Password Query
You know how you see that little box asking if you want to store your username and password for a website
Well some time ago I was saving my work sites to my spare laptop and for some reason on a site I use all the time I must have clicked on 'Not for this site' and now I want to store it ! but the little box no longer comes up when I sign in I've found a list of stored passwords under Control Panel - User Accounts - Credential Manage (W10) but can't work out if there's any way to add a site manually Can anyone tell how to do this if it's possible ? |

Yes it is
The prompt to save passwords appears on all other sites ...............it's just this one site where I've previously clicked on 'No' or 'Not for this site' that I now want to save it on and can't ! I've googled around and this does appear to be a bit of an insurmountable problem Looks like I might have to sign in 20 times a day....................

thanks.................
I hadn't seen that one but it doesn't help my problem appears to be the same as the person posting that query but they are answering as though he'd asked a different question I've given up, I'll just have to enter the log in manually until I get my next laptop |

IIRC if you delete all passwords then you start again and it should pop up. You'll have to enter them all again but only the once.

Yes................I did consider unckecking the relevant boxes in Internet options to turn off password storage altogether
then turning it on again but I was worried that I might not get prompts for any sites and anyway it seems the guy in Lion's link tried that and it didn't work |

IE11 > Delete Browsing History > tick all first 7 boxes > Delete. Making sure of Cookies and Website data, History, Form data, Passwords.
Websites can be updated and you maybe holding old stuff. Of course they will all need doing again. In an apparently empty Password box use the Delete and Backspace key repeatedly to clear out possible non-displayed characters. Deliberately input a wrong password, be careful they may only allow 5 attempts or something like that. You'll need to re-start IE11 and Windows for some changes to be made. I don't have an answer, just a selection of things I have tried before. |

There's a workaround to this problem via Edge in Windows 10.
Edge will show sites that you've said to not remember passwords for along with sites that have saved passwords. Settings > Advanced Settings > Manage My Saved Passwords Any sites you told IE not to remember passwords for should be listed with a blank password field. You can either enter the login details into Edge and it will update the credentials store, or you can delete the entry and you'll then be prompted again the next time you log into that site. |

I tried the above but the list in Edge Settings was just the sites where the password was stored............... actually it doesn't show the passwords just the log in name
It didn't include sites where I'd told iE not to save the password I also tried logging in to the site (it's the Land Registry Business User site) from Edge but it didn't prompt me to save the password |

Odd. It works for me. Have you checked through the whole list?
I deleted my saved Amazon password and confirmed it had gone from the list in Credential Manager, then logged in again and told IE not to remember my password. Amazon reappeared in the list in Edge with a blank password field. Adding the password manually saves it to the credential store and is then autofilled. Deleting the blank password entry re-enables the save prompt in both IE and Edge. That's how the 'feature' works... it saves the login name without a password in the credential store and it's the empty password field that denotes that the password is not to be saved or prompted to be saved on future logins. |

The list I see in Edge Settings is a list a web sites on which you have stored a password together with your username and an X
I'm assuming if you click on it it'll delete it from the list The Land Registry site isn't listed I'm not sure where you are seeing these 'password fields' as I don't see any..........

Click on the website name in the list in Edge to see the password field. The passwords themselves are obscured but the number of dots correspond to the length of the password.
I've just had a look at the Land Registry website and I think I may have worked out the problem. I can only get IE to prompt to remember username and password with Compatibility Mode turned on. With IE's default settings it won't prompt to save as it's not recognising the page as containing login details, probably due to the very old design of the site. Try enabling compatibility mode for the Land Registry site and see if IE then prompts you to save. |

I would never have thought of that in a million years what's more I deleted the site from the Compatibility View list after storing the password and it's still stored now I've gone back to 'normal' view............. well done !..................

No worries, I'm glad it's sorted.
I remembered how old the Land Registry site was when I bought a couple of title plans a year or so ago so I'm not surprised it was a compatibility issue. |
