Women have more to offer than sex.

I agree but it wont sell in the charts, where almost every song is normally about someones love life.

It might be relevant to the song sometimes, you might want to listen to 'Touch' again.
Also how sexual they are is partly in the eye of the beholder, don't you think?

Your generalisations didn't mention origins...also Adele is a product of the Brit School like Jessie J. So how manufactured is manufactured anyway? How did Motown discover their acts? And there is a label that made a point of managing their artists images.

Some songs are about sex, many are about relationships. These are core areas of social life, I would expect popular songs to be about those things.

Nothing wrong with knickers, and if that's what they like wearing to show off, then why not. They could try being nudists, just for a change, as wearing clothes can be so boring.

1. I'm not sure how people having different things to contend with based on where they start from would have escaped your notice.

2. In her first single Jessie J was grabbing her crotch and squatting or did you miss that?

3. Motown was 50 years ago. I'm talking about now.

BIB - Songs about sex and songs about relationships are not the same thing.

BIB, there are alot of people that find Adele attractive.

I honestly don't think that there's a Pop singer out there that doesn't have tons of admirers for their looks.

They're just clothes and if parents have an issue with it, just tell your kids they were pretending they were at the beach! People show a lot more flesh in general there and no-one bats an eyelid, whether its young women or grannies.

As pointed out by others, don't confuse sex lives with relationships and many of their songs are tongue in cheek.

That doesn't answer the question. If image is so important in Pop (which It Is) then origins are irrelevant.

You see what you want to see.......clearly.

Well pop is a lot older than now. And image has aways been an issue. I mentioned Motown because it was manufactured pop of high quality where the producers tried to control the image of the artists and did so to some affect. But they tried to sell their female artists and groups on a deliberately wholesome image and it worked to a large degree, LM have paid homage to Motown in a few of their songs.

Pop may have been more visualized since the advent of music TV in the 1980s.

My point is that it is a complicated relationship between image and pop. At times there are dual standards applied to women and men when it comes to attractiveness. Jesy out of LM has had some vile comments made about her body image over the last 5 years, so in a way if she he is recognized as sexy now, there is a degree of triumph to that.

Olly Murs, James Arthur, Elton John, Phil Collins, Matt Cardle (if he still has fans), Bono, Iggy Pop, Sam Smith......not obviously attractive but once you are in the public eye, your attractiveness quotient tends to increase anyway.

I would never buy any music just because an artist looks attractive. It's all about the music for me. If it's good I buy it, and if it's not I don't. Simple really.

I don't see why they should complain, if I looked like that I'd flaunt it too lol

That's fair enough. I think that producing good music is what makes the vast majority of artists, pop or not. There is a complex link between image and music in pop culture but it is too simplistic to say simply that sex sells....it doesn't always and not with LM in particular.

Yes, there is a prurience in some of the views expressed here which is at the least, annoying.

Little Mix have every right to wear what they want. I do think its ironic though that Mixers were slating Fifth Harmony earlier this year over the Work from Home and All in My Head videos. I guess its okay when your favourite is doing it.

They are when the relationship you're talking about is the one with the person or people you either are sleeping with, used to be sleeping with or want to sleep with.
Unless of course the relationships being sung about are with family members and friends but most pop songs these days aren't.

Really?

I mean in 2016 people are seriously pulling this crap, they worry about the influence these young women and their clothes will have on children... and not the general everyday hell we live these days?

Isn't that more to do with the fact, Fifth Harmony parade themselves as objects for males while Little Mix do it to empower other females?

Perhaps you could explain how 5H are parading themselve as objects to males, whereas LM are empowering women? I honestly can't tell the difference.

LOL. Little Mix do it for the same reason Louisa Johnson did on her first single on the show. Its what the label wants and they want it because it sells.

No, they aren't the same thing. Even if the relationship you are singing about is a sexual/romantic one, sex is only one aspect of it.

I find their stage act very aggressive, all that pulling faces into the camera and the head shaking with the hair going from side to side.

Those big knickered leotards are not very nice either.

And I don't think it's very classy to write and perform negative songs about your ex with graphic lyrics, especially when a large part of their audience are young kids.

So there!

They are all part of the soap opera the fans buy into.
That is the ones who aren't too busy drooling over the latest outfits, or lack of them.

The threads get worse and worse all the time on here lol.

People going on about young kids watching. They should of been in bed at that time anyways

I think if parents are worried that Little Mix's outfits are corrupting their children then they're doing parenting wrong!

They're young women dressing how they want to, nothing more, nothing less.
