You are forgetting that with tonight Matt topped the vote 7 times, even the week that they say Emily was top Matt had the same percentage of 18.7. Just the fact that Emily was alphabetically first. So first 5 weeks Matt was top of the leaderboard so he definitely deserved the win!

look how close the semi was
matt only survived by 0.4% from being sent home last week instead of emily Quote:
Looks like the public rallied to stop the foreigner winning then at the last moment.

If they wanted to push Saara more they probably should have given her The Winner Takes It All or Chandelier. Quote:

This depresses me So Nicole's plea for "us" to vote for our own, and her duet, didn't work LAST night then ? |

Or a lot of casual viewers popped back in for the final. I always wonder how much they affect the final tallies.

Unlucky for Saara, it's the first time that the finalist leading the freeze vote on the Saturday night hasn't gone on to win overall

Matt won because of 5AM's elimination. He gained 10% overnight following their elimination and 5 fresh votes for everybody. Only reason he won - wasn't anything to do with any of his performances on the final show.

I'm a bit saddened that Relley never had any real support. I thought she may have crept into the top 3 in week 1, since 'Shackles' was undoubtedly one of the best performances of the night. I suppose it was to be expected with her lack of pre-lives exposure though.
Saara actually had a lot more support than I anticipated -- not once in the bottom 2! Goes to show what a joke the lifeline vote was. 5 AM's stats shocked me too, I thought for sure that they were pulling through by the skin of their teeth towards the latter stages, but they easily could've won the whole show. God knows why. |

Was it 6.5 million votes Dermot said there was?
If so that works out at around Matt-3,152,500 votes Saara 2,626,000 votes Beating her by 526,500 votes |

Emily could've been 18.79% and he could've been 18.70%. Stupid of them not specify, but she's top because she had more votes; just like Gifty is above Saara in week two. By your logic, did Eoghan deserve to win in 2008, then? He won six of the 10 weeks, if I remember correctly? Saara topped the last two weeks and last night, she definitely had the momentum. The typical voters came and crashed the party at the last minute and spoilt it all for us, though. |

But I still think Matt deserved the win because he topped the leaderboard nearly every week! |

Both of Saara's song choices tonight were terrible, while both of Matt's were perfect. I'm a massive fan of Saara, but if I had tuned in for the first time tonight I probably wouldn't have voted for her because those songs were just WRONG on every level.

Saara was in the lead, then the Bjork song lost it for her. It's too playful and not dramatic enough for the final. Anyway she will do well despite not winning.

Votes here:
Spoiler
Big thing there - Saara was leading at the vote freeze yesterday but Matt overhauled her overnight/tonight. I'm glad that Saara's It's Oh So Quiet put her in 2nd place in week 3 as it is my favourite Saara performance. And I'm happy that Relley's Shackles performance, and Ryan's Twist And Shout was also appreciated in the voting to some extent. However it seems that I was right that if Emily weren't on so late in week 6 that she would've been in the bottom two, possibly dead last in the vote, she's like the Folk version of Tamera Foster.

Good point r.e Eoughan.
Fair enough though, Matt was fair and square. I was wanting a Saara win it would have been brilliant, a great example of this country embracing someone from another. She would have made history to have become the first first week bottom 2 contestant to win it! But this is the X Factor...and honestly Saara fans it doesn't matter who wins. It is almost definite Saara will be signed and release a single and album. I think both Matt and her aren't very commercial and could see them both like Fleur and Ben failing. However, lets look forward to Honey G's single, Saara and Matt's upcoming albums and singles etc. I'm not bitter, he had a great night yesterday and today and i find him personally unlikeable but i realize why he won, a great voice, he's been winning for weeks, she did give him a great fight and to be 48% v 40% is amazing in itself. A very close final. |

No it's not alphabetical. Do you really think they got the EXACT same number of votes? I have more chance of winning the lottery than that happening.

I think if Saara had been more consistent early on she might have won it but she came a good runner up in the end! |

Matt doesn't derserve to win because he topped the votes the most times, otherwise what's the point of watching the show to make your own opinions otherwise if we're all suppose to worship "the most popular?"

They weren't lying (for once!) about the vote being close, both the first part of the final and the semi final were very close for all of the acts.
