Selling a Contract Phone
I have a friend who upgrades his phone every year for free on his contract.
He always get the latest model, and sell it on ebay. The last free upgrade was a Samsung D500, this was 3 months ago. He sold it on Ebay for £250 ish I think. His contract is £15 a month and he tells me he's never used up his 100 anytime mins, I think he's om 02. As he just uses his phone to make phone calls, he's happy to use a 3410. It's clever really, 12 x £15 is £180, so his line rental is FREE. He never has to pay for any of his phone bills as hos phone he sells pays for it all. He's done this for 2 years now. Just wondering what are the leagal matters here? Is a FREE upgrade really a FREE phone? Or are you leasing it for 12 months. |

Just goes to show how many mugs there are on eBay doesn't it?
Why would someone pay £250 for something you could effectively buy for £180 over 12 months interest free? |

People have been doing this since day one tbh.
Just sold my A1000 for £220 on ebay, as I use a basic old 3g handset for that contract. How exactly did he get someone to pay £250 for a phone that's available freely at around £220 sim free, and new from a shop? |

The bidder only signed up to ebay on 16 May 2005 and bought it as a buy-it-now offer. A quick search of current open items for the same phone shows another (2 weeks old, as new, boxed, with original receipt) for £199.99 available on buy-it now. Seller also has 100% pos. feedback, been around almost a year and has 66 feedback responses (as opposed to just 5). Postage is £2.50 cheaper too. I won't post the link whilst it's still live (no, it's not me ) but the listing started 14-May-05 18:37:52 BST and will end 17-May-05 18:37:52 BST, if not sold earlier. Why didn't the buyer buy that?
