Teenage girls vote helped by mass free voting by app - pretty boy wins.

Hormones I would suggest are the main reason.

Yet the Hungarian group won BGT.

No-one objected to Jedward being on it.

Honestly I don't think Xenophobia is a factor

Agreed. It was the usual female teenage vote that won it for Matt.

I admit that I feel more connection with someone born in the UK isles (same with British footballers at a football club), but when she was allowed to enter she should win if she deserves to and she was the best singer by a mile !”

Or it could have just been that loads of young lasses voted for Matt, which I thought they would. I think Saara did extremely well to make it to runner up.

She wouldn't have got to the final surely if this was true

I don't think Cowell wants to sign Saara because he didn't hint at wanting to sign her when congratulating her. Anyway, I think Saara wanted the freedom of getting the best deal by making it to second place.

Louis said they are all signed to the same management company, how that affects their ability to get a contract I don't know.

I've read your post again, and I have to say it appals me. We are all foreigners, there are no native British people. I consider myself English and I can trace my family back a thousand years. However I am descended from both Norman and Saxons and latterly Dutch, Spanish and French. I am therefore connected strongly to Europe as are most of you chaps. The whole argument really winds me up.

But I said exactly the same of Matt - more snooze factor than X Factor. He has been given much better songs during the series.

It's very difficult for a woman to win in a direct head to head with a man on this show- 62% of the viewers are female and that app vote has made things even harder. Whenever a woman has won before her male competition has been incredibly weak and the judges have had to work overdrive all series to make it happen. Louisa had to go up against Reggie n Bollie to win, Leona against Ray Quinn, Sam Bailey almost beaten by Nicholas Mcdonald, Little Mix almost beaten by Marcus Collins, Alexandra beaten b Eoghan Quigg almost every week and needed Beyonce to overtake a boyband.

I honestly don't think any of the female winners could have beaten Matt Terry in a head to head.

This seems to be a fashionable albeit silly argument. In theory you could go back to the beginning of time in which case everyone is a 'mongrel' to some extent. Are you saying there is no such thing as national characteristics?
As for 'foreigners' - in the real world as opposed some PC Guardianista world - you can be regarded as alien if you come from a different UK village - let alone a different country.
In times gone by this was a life preservation thing and it is now wired into our DNA albeit mostly subconsciously..

Nailed it imo. Matt probably got the teen girl vote - as well as the Mum vote

Well, not strictly true but the Welsh have the biggest call on being native Brits - at least we've been here the longest.

Cute boy beats girl in popularity contest, nothing xenophobic about it.

I think in the early stages of the live shows it played a part. Saara was consistently the best performer but ended up in the bottom two and I think that is because the VTs and comments all tried to make her seem "different". But her peformances won people over.

I have lived near Bromley all my life and at no point did I feel an affinity with my local contestant. Matt is bland and limited and I'd never vote based on the fact that we've probably both been into the same Macdonalds at some point.

The voting results show that Matt was popular from day one. He's the sort of winner the show loves - a completely blank canvas they can manipulate and then spit out. His resemblance to one of One Direction will have got the tween vote. We were constantly told he was a "heartthrob" and a good looking young lad will always do well.

BIB: An empty soundbite, it means nothing.

Why don't some people who voted leave understand that almost half of the country don't agree them, why on earth should they go quiet and not have any say whatsoever on what happens next when it affects them directly?

Anyone that dares disagree with Brexit is a 'remoaner' or a 'snowflake'. It's like being in primary school again.

Unfortunately the word 'compromise' seems to have disappeared out of the worlds vocabulary this year.

Not a viewer but maybe she is lucky to be runner up. Generally speaking haven't the runners up on this show gone on to achieve much more than the actual winners. So maybe a blessing in disguise for her.

Sorry, I can't relate to the "pretty boy" comment, Matt (to me) is anything but pretty as I found him most unattractive.

Back to the subject in hand: The name of the show is X-Factor, not Brits-only X-Factor and Saara was by far the better singer and should have won. She has a lovely voice and, hopefully, she'll go far.

Yep.the fact shes bi would have pulled in more votes from the LGBT community surely ? To be honest im sure Matt also has a gay following although he hasnt commented either way as far as i know regarding his sexuality.(the DS armchair journalists have decided for him ) your right people need to get over it .Matt won because he was the better singer, got more votes and was most popular.get over yourselves.

Just out of interest, who? I can't think of any.

It's also a show permits multiple free voting by app - and hormonal teenage girls have a lot of time on their hands.

The show is not about the best singer but who gets most votes. And these days with free app voting the choice of the teenies wins.

It's the same reason no one over 25 who isn't in a reality tv show or a soap will ever win I'm a celebrity or big brother anymore. Free app voting has killed them.

I would say that's pretty much it, Matts audience is probably largely female and of that the teenage years and of the group that is more likely to vote multiple times, Saara has I think a different audience and less likely to multiple vote .

But to my mind coming in second is certainly not xenophobia
