There's been talk between myself and two other friends about taking a vacation to Thailand in 2017; a much needed break to somewhere completely different. Thailand seems to be the chosen destination because of the various activities and overall (relatively cheap) price.

Now, one of the two friends that'll be coming with me hasn't had that experience with a women yet. He's 27. I'm 29, and only had that same experience this year, so I think I know his state of mind, and the nerves he'll no doubt have at the time. It's not that he isn't interested in women, he is, he's just unlucky, as I was. The other friend, well... he doesn't seem to have much trouble. Needless to say, he's suggested that me and him help the other guy out whilst out there (if he's willing) however I thought I'd do a little ... research(?) before hand, as none of us know enough, and reviews only offer so much info.

A colleague of mine seems to think it's as simple as walking into a bar, getting the attention of a waitress/barmaid, then taking her away and getting it on. Not quite sure it's as simple as that (cause the job of a waitress/barmaid is to keep the bar/resort serviceable, and I can't imagine (a) boss just giving the okay on that).

Ideally we'd want to avoid any too sleazy of a place (possibly difficult considering) but does anyone have any first hand experience/advice of the Thailand Adult Scene?

I read in the news not so long ago about an English guy who died after having sex with a Thai barmaid! The locals were obviously questioned but the hotel staff just said that foreign men are always taking barmaids/hookers into their rooms so they never bat an eyelid when their booking people in, it's perfectly normal!

The one guy already plans to dive straight into them anyway, so it's not like we'd be purposely entering the scene. The other guy, we think it might help with his confidence a little. He's built up this wall I suppose, similar to how I did with these big expectations about virginity and sex when it's overhyped. I figure if he has that experience for himself (whether in Thailand or otherwise) he'll come to realize that he doesn't have anything to continually worry about, and that he's set these mental barriers up for no reason.

It may not be for him; we've not spoken to him about it yet. It's more a suggestion that me and the other guy are going to extend to him at the time, and if he's interested, we'll be there to help him out (before and after anyway, not during, obviously).

I know a group of men in their 40s/50s who go out to Thailand every year for an extended period and meet up with the same sex workers each time. the women actually wait for them to arrive at the airport and then stay with them in whatever accommodation they book for the entire time. There's even some sort of arrangement where they first drive to a clinic to get the women 'checked out'.

I would think long and hard about whether you want to contribute to that industry though. How much choice do the women have who are offering their services, what kind of things have happened to them to lead them to it. Once you've done it you can never take it back, for the rest of your life you will be someone who has paid for sex.

After watching a programme on TV about this personally I think it's wrong. The girls in the main don't work for themselves but are forced into it, sold by their parents due to poverty to pimps who go to poor rural areas. It's more slavery than anything else.

I agree. These men should be ashamed of exploiting the very poor. They are nothing at home but over there they can flash a few quid and behave like emperors.It's nauseating as well as pathetic.

Many of the sex workers in Thailand have been sold as youngsters to be sex slaves.
Just think for a minute that the twenty something you are hoping to set your friend up with may very well have been forced to do this since they were a child.

The fact that people so often only focus on getting what they want and disregard the consequence of their actions, is why we see so much misery in the world.

The language of your post 'helping out' etc shows that you have given only thought to the wants of your friend . There are many documentaries about the 'Adult Scene' in Thailand on Youtube. If you want to know the reality there is a good place to start.

I have been to Thailand quite a few times and in one apartment block we stayed in it was mainly European men living with Thai girls who were not sold into it but chose it, mainly because they were poor but never had anything bad to say about the men they lived with. One girl I used to sit and speak with quite often told me she had a daughter back home who was looked after by her sister whilst she stayed in Pattaya but the guy she lived with used to go "home" with her 3 or 4 times and give money to her family and bought them land. Some of the women were paid to look after older men and one guy told me it was better than living in a care home in UK as the women were very good to them and they paid them well and were happy to do so.

But yes it is easy to pick up the bar girls, pay for their time and then they go back to work in the bar. Be careful as you can be very easily scammed or your wallet go missing when you have had a few drinks. Beware of the Lady boys

It does seem to be the "desperado" types who do this, the ones who wouldn't be able to find themselves a girlfriend in their home country.

I was rather sickened the last time I was in Thailand, I was in a club and there was a middle aged man with 2 working girls on his arm, which is such a common sight, but this time he had his teenage son with him..... also with 2 working girls

I would say half of the men who stayed in the apartment block were just "regular" guys aged between 30 and 45 who could afford to live in the sun for part of the winter but yes some of them were a bit over the hill and desperate.
The younger ones liked the Thai girls as they "did not give them grief like girls at home" and in return they girls made a living and said they were happy to be there.
I am not saying that all blokes who go to Thailand are like this but lots of the long term stayers are.

First thing I thought of was Alan Partridge and his 'fascination' with the ladyboys and 'accidentally' watching Bangkok Chick Boys on the hotel's PPV TV then being puzzled about why it was on the bill "No no no, tell me about the ladyboys... fascinating creatures though"

That's a fair comment, and not a position I'd think this one guy would like to be put in (in hindsight). The one guy wouldn't care (bad breakup a few years back, and his regard for most women is at an all-time low as it is).

From a financial point of view, if you go to Thailand, you pay for the flight. The living cost isn't all that pricey. By comparison, you'd also (potentially) get a Thai girl for the duration, unlike a what, 15-minute window with one in Amsterdam?

I've no doubt that some men go out there and treat the women decently, but women who live in desperate poverty and can change their families lives by being the subservient partner in a loveless relationship with men so emotionally stunted they can't handle the realities of a normal adult relationship might describe themselves as 'happy', but as a wild guess, I would say they aren't exactly living their best life.
