Judging by what happened with Ben I would say not too many, but what do you think?

Don't be daft. Kids are fickle. In a couple of months they'll forget he even existed.

Of course they won't - he'll be faded away soon!!

Looks like most of his votes came from people trying to stop Saara winning rather than to support him, so it seems very unlikely they will buy his music.

You were joined by many others. Has to be one of the worst blunders the show has ever made, but back to Matt they will need to bring out an album for him pretty quick I reckon for him to stand any chance.

Nope.

Like all other male winners (sans Shayne Ward) he'll have possibly the one hit then fade into panto.

I'm with you on this. As someone already said, most fans are fickle just like they were with many of the other winners. However, if, and that's a big IF, he pulls something out of the bag and produce some really good material, then he may have one successful album which will probably go to number 1, but whether that happens remains to be seen.

It all boils down to the backing he gets from Cowell and Syco. They can make or break him with song choice, image, amount of marketing etc.

Simon showed a lot of passion for Matt on the Xtra Factor last night.

I am not even sure what genre of music he is going to do really.

Simon said that Matt would get 100% support, but I bet he doesn't.

Simon has already signed Louis Tomlinson - he surely doesn't want a better-singing lookalike. Louis will be given all the decent songs and Matt will get the dregs, then be dropped.

Like all the other supposed flop winners - it wasn't their fault as they were given rubbish songs and not marketed or promoted properly. The same will happen to Matt.

just like all the bored housewives who voted got behind Ben Flopnows career...

Teenage girl app voters can't buy multiple copies of his album for free on their mobile apps, so no.

So the rumours are true then.

He isn't really much like Ben in terms of style of music he likes to sing, imo.

The show doesn't seem to do a good job with male solo artist, even Shayne Ward who was very popular, they suddenly stopped bothering for years with him and when he did a comeback it was a bit late....
I hope he does well but they need good songs and that just doesn't seem to happen.

No.

Sam Smith is probably going to make his comeback with album #2 in 2017 so this alone is going to completely overshadow Matt Terry.

...but this is what happens when you allow girls aged 11-16 to vote on their X Factor app. They're the most fickle of all target audiences.

All those free votes...for nothing!!!

I'd be interested to see how many votes matt got through app vs saara.

Simon looked disappointed at the end, as though he knew how signing matt was gonna go. It was almost a defeatist attitude. IF and this is a big IF that Matt got through most weeks via APP, then the likelihood of those free votes resulting in actual record sales is slim.

Where as I don't think that Saara got a large APP vote. Of course I could be wrong but I don't get the impression that saara was ever going to attract a large number of votes through free voting. She just doesn't fit that mould.

I know Saara has got criticised on this forum for being just another Sam Bailey but it's her versatility and likability that won people around and I do think Simon knows this. In the final you could tell he was pushing for her win.

Are the 11-16 year old girls who voted for Little Mix not still buying their music?

One thing I will say is that a couple of my friends voted through the app, and both of them nearly ended up casting a vote for Matt by accident because he was featured on the front screen (you had to scroll over for Saara) and when it loads up it is very easy to hit the vote button. I did the same :-/

I reckon his voters don't buy music. Period. The overwhelming majority of music consumed by teenagers (and probably young adults by now) is through streaming, specifically YouTube.

Yes.

Do you think Matt Terry will be more successful in 2022 than he's set to be in 2017?

I didn't vote for Matt but like his single so I will buy his and Honey G's since I supported her every week
