I'm really enjoying the latest series with Bill Nighy. I've always liked these stories and adaptations since the days when Francis Matthews was the eponymous hero. I wonder why they've never made it to the screen?

No I like them too, Bill Nighy has just the right amount of louchness for the roll

They are very good. Can't help thinking a TV version would not be to my liking. Rather like having read books and then seen TV or film adaptations of the books and they have been nothing like how I imagined them and so I was disappointed. It's worked in reverse at times of course. But generally radio gives your imagination a good workout imagining things just like books do.

That's a good point. I was fortunate in hearing the Bill Nighy versions before reading the books, so I had a ready-made 'voice' for Charles.
