Hi
Hair feels brittle (even killed my curls) after hairdresser bleeped it up. Anyway putting that story aside, what product can i use? I usually only use oil serums to silken the hair, and i even used a hair conditioning mask yesterday! But no difference to texture of hair, so beyond suggesting cutting my hair - not going to happen! Please recommend some products!

I feel for you. When my hair was damaged back in 2014 (very dry and prone to breaking when touched) my hairdresser pointed me to Pro Naturals hair repair system. It worked and I still use it today but instead of every 5th shampoo day I use it every 6th shampoo day. I use the Pro Naturals argan oil as a leave in treatment after EVERY shampoo applied to damp hair ends and up hair shaft it hydrates the hair but it also protects the hair from heat damage. I use the Pro Naturals hair mask once a week. My hair feels soft instead of stiff, it really shines instead of looking white/grey but, I no longer suffer from breakage when I brush my hair nor do I suffer from split ends or any other form of damage. I normally shampoo my hair every 4th day.

Doesn't sound like you're doing enough of this. If you want frizz free hair conditioning it with a masque will help. If your hair is dry and not moisturised this can be a big cause of frizz. When you're looking for a hair masque opt for ones that are designed for dry hair; ones that offer moisture.

Frizzyness tends to begin at the shampoo stage, so if you're using a harsh SLS shampoo this may be a contributing factor as to why your hair is frizzy. Try an SLS free shampoo

Consider using a pre shampoo treatment before you wash your hair, any good oil like coconut will do; I've been using Darshana oil which is excellent. By doing this it will help to counteract the harsh effect of the shampoo and the cuticle will lay down flat rather than frizzing up.

If you blow dry, please ensure you use heat protectant

Lushness, wouldn't all the lovely oil extracts listed in the ingredients act as a heat protectant?

The problem is you can't just use any oil as heat protectant you need one that can at least mimick that of the commercial heat protectants. If I was going to use an oil as heat protectant I would use castor oil because it's texture is almost like a serum, very silicone esq. It would form an excellent coating around the hair strand to protect it, trouble is castor oil is heavy and it will weigh down your hair. Next choice would be argan but I don't like the smell. The problem with oil is you can't let the oil go past the high smoke point otherwise you will singe and damage your hair. So if you're going to use oil then you need to ensure your flat iron isn't too hot.

That doesn't work for me I need my irons to be fairly hot otherwise it doesn't do the job hence why I use commercial heat protectants. I've nurtured my hair and got it to a decent length, I would hate to ruin it because of not using adequate protectant

The Pro Naturals mask....I second this. This stuff renders me speechless. After not using it for a while, and seeing my hair get more and more split, unmanageable and flyaway I remembered I'd had some in a drawer. Well, what a transformation. Smooth, silky hair that I can get a brush through when wet (I know we're not meant to do that but when a large brush passes through long hair with no tugging, pulling, ripping, why not).

It's IS on the pricey side but for my hair I only need about 2 tablespoons, so does last.

I'm saving my pennies for when this tub runs out,

I've been using Moroccanoil Moisture Repair Shampoo (not the Hydrating shampoo). When I use it, it just cuts through any tangles and my hair feels very moisturised. It is rich and concentrated so you only need a little bit. However I appreciate not everyone is going to want to pay £16 for a shampoo, hell even I baulk at that price however its lasted me around 5 months so when you look at it that way.....

A cheaper SLS free alternative is ORS Olive oil shampoo, it's beautifully rich but affordable, and cleanses without stripping about £4.00. Aubrey Organics shampoo is good too.

Saying that I do use SLS shampoos but you wouldn't think they have SLS in them, Philip Kingsley Moisture shampoo and the Pro Naturals one is good also.

Brilliant. Thanks so much. I will give some (more like most!) of these a try.

I don't mind spending a bit on my hair. I think it's worth every penny as bad hair days are horrible!

Henara Treatment Wax is undoubtedly the best product but I don't know where you could get it.

My hair used to be wrecked but best thing I ever did was stop colouring it and stopped blow drying it. Breakage stopped and now it looks healthy again.

So glad that Pro Naturals works for you,

just washed my hair this morning and instead of using the argan oil leave in treatment I tried my new Karmin Heat Protection & Shining Spray with Argan Oil. Shook the bottle very well & squirted a tiny bit on my palm, smoothed between my palms & rubbed on the ends mainly but also up the hair shaft. As my hair is really short, above collar at back and just ear length I only needed 2 squirts to cover all my hair. Lovely smell and not at all greasy. Protects against heat damage from blow dryers & heat styling irons and also against UV rays as well. Will see how many days my hair will go before requiring my next shampoo. With the Pro Naturals argan oil leave in treatment I managed to extend it to every 4 days.

I would buy a pot of coconut oil, put it on and wrap your head up for ten hours. It's cheap and the best thing I've ever used.

You can get it from amazon for a couple of pounds. The organic one is best. It's solid in the pot so you need to warm it first by standing it in really hot water.

Works a treat, especially if you leave it on overnight.

The Pro Naturals shampoo is SLS free see
"Ingredients: Aqua, Cocamidopropyl betaine * an organic compound derived from coconut oil, Polyquaternium 10 * Antistatic Agent, Hair Fixative, Citric Acid, Argania spinosa kernel oil (Argan Oil)" so not much lather but it works really well. I use the shampoo & conditioner as part of their suggested hair repair system.
