Dirk Gently Holistic Detective (US version) Netflix
I loved Douglas Adam's books but the UK TV version was not good imo and I did not like Steve Mangan in the title roll. So I thought I would give the US version a try and I loved it. The interconnectedness of things seemed to pan out much more smoothly and I liked all the characters especially Samuel Barnett in the title role though I can't say I have seen him in anything else and Elijah wood is very good. I have watched 3 already so quite hooked by my standards!

I've been looking forward to this too. I just saw yesterday that it was available on UK Netflix.
I wasn't impressed by the UK version either. It didn't seem to capture the essences of the novels at all. |

I'm on episode 7 now. Still trying to work out all of the interconectedness but really enjoying it. I was wary to start with but I like what they done with this version by throwing all of the source material out of the window yet still keeping the spirit of DNA's original work. I'd never seen Samuel Barnett in anything before (though he does have a familiar face) but he plays a believable Dirk and the rest of the cast is solid too.

I thought the show was pretty good, found Dirk Gently a bit annoying at times. If you have watched Penny Dreadful, you will have seen Samuel Barnett.

It has its positive and negative sides, I always wanted to see a proper adaptation of the books, neither the BBC nor BBC America have achieved that.
The version on Netflix however was better than the poor attempt the BBC tried in the UK and the new characters that were introduced were fun. I thought a holistic assassin was a funny idea. |

I'm sure the purists wouldn't be happy but as a huge fan of everything DNA ever did I think he would have liked this. The only thing which threw me was the ending. Everything seemed wrapped up with 10 minutes to go - and then they threw it all up in the air again. |
