Has anyone had any experience of this?

My mum had been peeing blood so was sent for bladder and kidney checks. She has a tumour on one of her kidneys. They've told her they will send another appointment out to her but that's likely to be in the new year now.
They've given her very little info on what will happen (or she was too shocked to take it in).

She's had cancer before, hysterectomy and radiotherapy and it was sorted but she's in a real flap at the mo as she doesn't know what is going to happen.

The organisation was started by the radio presenter James Whale, who had it about 15 years ago and had to have a kidney removed.

Thank you Isambard, she has high blood pressure which is a worry if she needs an op but that site mentions keyhole surgery for high bp patients which is reassuring.

Try to keep calm and keep her calm too that's going to help blood pressure most, my late elderly aunt had kidney cancer and after an op and a chemo was fine for many years, it was old age got her in the end not the cancer.

I believe it's one of the best cancers to get it isn't so likely to spread and you have two and can manage with one.

She has every chance of getting through this.

Yes, my dad had it. They removed the kidney and he's been cancer-free for almost 4 years now. Caught early enough, kidney cancer has one of the best survival rates as it takes longer to spread from there and they can just completely remove the diseased organ.

My dad hasn't noticed any difference with one kidney, other than that he occasionally gets a bit of phantom pain where it used to be.

My mum had this too in her fifties and they took one out. Lots of people survive on one kidney. In fact you can actually donate one.

My aunt had a kidney removed due to cancer 3 years ago. She is now fine and in remission although does still have regular check ups.

My Mum had kidney cancer 16 years ago. The consultant said it's one of the best types of cancer to get (not that there's a good cancer) because the kidneys kind of have a wall round them, so it doesn't tend to spread.
My Mum had her kidney removed, but didn't need any chemo or anything, just the kidney removal. They check her every so often, but she has never looked back.
It is a major op with about 3month recovery time if they do a full open up rather than keyhole, but with no chemo, then it's easier treatment than other cancers

It didn't go too well, her ECG was good so no problems there but her BP is so high despite being on medication for it. They want to remove the kidney in approx six weeks but want her BP down before they'll operate, her GP has sent her home with a monitor to take it twice daily for a week. Her BP worries me as it's always so high, she needs to lose about 7st but I'm not sure that's doable in six weeks but any weight loss would help get it down. I've given her a list of foods to eat or avoid so fingers crossed she can lower it a bit.

If she can cut out for instance sugar and walk she can lose enough to get her blood pressure down quite a bit. It worked for me. It's not how much she weighs as much as being as fit as she can be. Imo
