Sky Cinema Disney has renamed temporarily today to Sky Cinema Pixar (305/332).

I'd like to add my thanks to Jimbo and Digi Man for keeping this thread going with their regular postings and maintaining the information so well. I'd also to thank all other regular contributors and wish you all a very merry Christmas.

Sky and Freesat receivers normally carry on regardless when changes happen on the satellite transmissions that they are designed to receive, as their EPG programmers know well in advance what the changes are, indeed often they themselves instigate them!
It's only the owners of generic FTA receivers who have to keep on manually chasing the changes, which do happen often.

The best of wishes and ever thanks to all involved in what has long been one of my favourite parts of DS. Here's to 2017; let's see what the satellites - and the forthcoming new format to the forum - brings us.

I agree with what you say but find it strange no one has reported the changes on here
(If the postings on KOS are correct of course)

NOW Xmas has become NOW 80s on 378 - don't think this has been posted so far?

EDIT: Just seen this has been spotted - so it's not a permanent thing it would appear?

One question I do have (forgive me if this is not the place to discuss it) is why there are these regularly changes on satellite? I get new channels/channel closures, but why would channel A move/change parameters?

This seems to happen very often in the satellite world

My question would be around the EPG slot ownership
and the gaps between numbers,

We already have a horrid numbering system,
(even though its not called a logical numbering system) like that on Freeview.

could Youview/Virgin/Sky not have an agreement to numbering ???

I wish there were an ownership list.

Thats one of many gripes, like not having 3D Channels and 4K channels on the EPG.

also Sky Q looking abysmal and not being able to get Virgin Media at my address

This seems to happen very often in the satellite world
It's usually due to bandwidth considerations.
As the available bandwidth on a satellite transponder is usually shared out between the channels on that transponder, it would be very silly to have one transponder full of sports channels, for instance. The quality would then be very poor on all of them as sports channels are very bandwidth hungry due to the nature of their programming. At the other end of the scale, news channels use relatively little as they are often static talking heads, not loads of people running around on a sports pitch with constantly moving camera shots!
The transmission system automatically shares out the available bandwidth depending on the channels' demand at any particular time, and if several channels are transmitting demanding content at the same time, the other channels on the transponder will be starved and their quality drop.
They therefore always try to balance bandwidth hungry channels with less demanding channels, so as new channels open and others close, they need to shuffle them around to maintain that.
An over-simplification I realise, as who owns the transponders has to be taken into account as well of course, and there are other factors, but that's my understanding as to the main reason that constant reshuffling takes place.
