I notice that ITV have released the voting figures for I'm a Celeb and XFactor so why cant the BBC release the ones for Strictly.

I know its been asked before but just wondered if there is a reason for it. Have they something to hide

ITV do it because of the voting scandal a few years back

The BBC have said in the past that they do not release figures in case it puts celebs off taking part in show - though it never put people off takin part in DOI

Though it's worth bearing in mind the BBC were caught up in the voting scandal as much as ITV were.

A lame excuse if you don't mind my saying. That could also go for the celebs that go into the jungle - well some of them are celebs

One problem would be if releasing the figures changes the votes for future weeks. For example, what if Danny is so far behind in the votes that people just give up him and decide not to vote for him despite him being their favourite? That's not good for the public, the show, or the celebs. The show works best when people vote for what they really want.

Also the public don't need to know the vote, they only need to know it is correct. An independent firm are collecting the vote, I believe.

ITV release figures at the end of the series not each week - so woule not affect how public votes. Was interesting to read the figs for Im a celeb and the X Factor for the series and seeing how far off I was in how I thought public were voting

I can understand them not releasing them during the series but whats to stop them releasing them when its over just like ITV do.

I don't watch the XFactor but I agree on I'm a Celeb. However, we all knew that Scarlett was going to win from day one but it was the others that were a surprise.

I think they do the right thing in not releasing the voting figures. It's meant too be a feel-good show and the celebs work damn hard for months on end.

Strictly generally attracts a better calibre of celeb and I think one of the reasons it's able to do so is because they are less likely to be hung out to dry (...not going to say that never happens )

I expect the reason the celebs on IACGMOOH or DOI accept it is because of the enormous paycheque involved. Makes the humiliation a bit more palatable, I should think .

I think after this years voting problems, they should publish the voting.

Perhaps they could just release figures from the quarter finals onwards to satisfy everyone that they aren't trying to hide anything. I'm sure they aren't but it would stop all the conjecture.

The ITV voting scandal was when producers ignored the phone results on Soapstar Superstar. People paid for this vote.

The BBC voting scandal when Blue Peter chose a different name for a cat than viewers chose online.

ITV one was worse, although both broadcasters had people failing to get considered for competitions they phoned in for.

Exactly, I think pressure has to come from some heavy weights, BBC can't just say no, it's public votes and we have the right to know. I am sure things will change, might take a few years.

I agree when people have given their time and money to vote, then they have a right to know.

And anyone who already thinks the BBC conspired, pointlessly, to discriminate against a young gymnast in favour of a sports presenter/former pop singer and are not convinced that the vote is being conducted with complete integrity by an independant audit organisation, are unlikely to be convinced by the publication of the numbers.

Some people will only ever believe that it is a fix and the only publication they will believe is one that backs up that belief.

But it won't because people will simply shift to saying the numbers released are made up.

Nobody is going to say that because no corporation can just make up figures and publish, these are independently verified.

Of course they can. They could make up any numbers and publish them to pacify the conspiracy theorists. I could make some up right now and if I worked for the programme would that make them believable? If you are not prepared to believe the independent verifiers why would you believe someone working on the production team?

People only want to know the figures to see how many unpopular celebs were carried through by the judges. Nobody is saying there are not adding up the figures correctly.

Not "as much as ITV" from what I remember. There were a couple of trivial things done for production reasons whereas ITV (and CH4 I think) were involved in deliberate frauds to generate large sums from call revenue.

If people want to know just so they can have a good grumble, I'm not sure that's a positive reason to release the figures.
