And they are not grumbling now. I think it would stop the suspicion that the BBC are hiding something. I haven't heard anyone complain about the voting figures for I'm a Celeb or XFactor.

People are taking the time to vote for free or pay and vote, so it's only fair that they get to see how their favourite faired. Nothing wrong with that.

Releasing voting figures could be embarrassing for the professionals, or create an "it's all over" at the start mentality. If one celeb is really popular and another isn't very popular it could all look a bit done and dusted before anything's begun.

There is no reasonable excuse to not release them at the end of the series.

Yes, I am really curious about the vote for each couple. I personally had problems getting through on the computer and telephone and I query whether this had any effect on the outcome.

I think this series has been the worst yet for bias and manipulation. I think the only way for the BBC to stop all the controversy is to publish the figures - and they should also have extended the time to vote as they had problems.

Very disappointed with this series and the BBC.

I don't understand why they can't just reveal the voting stats. It's not as if the Beeb are averse to a bit of brutal honesty toward contestants on some shows - in the ALW Casting shows, when the bottom two were announced, Graham Norton would announce which of the bottom two was the least popular with the public, right before both contestants did the sing-off! Yet we weren't allowed to see the voting stats at the end of the series, ostensibly to spare the feelings of the contestants

if they did release them the Daily Heil and the Red Tops would have a field day. Terrible idea.

It's not as if the judges don't embarrass the celebs. I don't buy that argument.

For what it's worth, I think revealing the % at the end of the series is a large part of what killed off Dancing On Ice. As soon as they started doing it, the ratings dropped every series until it was cancelled. More or less every year it became obvious immediately afterwards that some people (Jessica Taylor and Matt Lapinskas being the most obvious examples) were getting pulled along on truly tiny %s of the vote, and quite often the comedy contestants were getting cut when they were as high as second or third in the vote. In most of these cases it wasn't judge bias either - the unpopular skaters mostly deserved their marks and the comedy contestants were mostly terrible. I don't think it'd do Strictly any favours to expose itself in the same way. X Factor and IAC are different, as judges have a much smaller role in the former and none at all in the latter.

I can understand them not releasing them during the series but whats to stop them releasing them when its over just like ITV do.[/quote]

I have often said on here that there appears to be no logical reason why the voting figures are given after the final - unless of course they have something to hide?

The reason ITV publish the figures for all the shows is because they were caught completely ignoring the results of the public vote and putting whoever they liked up for elimination on certain public-vote shows. They do it because they now have to prove everything is above board.

There is an independent adjudicator whose job is it to confirm the results of the public vote on Strictly. If the BBC tried to ignore the public vote, then the independent would simply blow the whistle.

Whether BBC publishes the figures or not, Tories, DM and Murdoch want to end BBC
license fee.

There is a BBC statement on this ...

Quote:
“We invite you to vote for the dancers that you liked best, based on their performance in each show and during the series. Releasing voting figures could affect the way that people vote, and also have an impact on the participants. We therefore do not disclose the exact voting figures.

Although the BBC is subject to the Freedom of Information Act, information which is closely connected to our programme-making is not covered by the Act. The Information Commissioner, who regulates the Act, has confirmed that information about Strictly Come Dancing voting is not covered. We are therefore not required to disclose the voting figures under the Act.”

I would like to see the voting figures at the end of a series, but even more than that, I'd like to know who comes second and who comes third when it's a four person final!

We are not asking or expecting them to release the voting figures every week during the series. I cant see what harm it would do if they were released at the end when it was all over.

I just want to know the voting figures, that will cover all the positions.

They could at the very least release the voting numbers for the final. This wouldn't undermine any of the reasons that they have previously given for not releasing the voting numbers during the series. I cannot see any harm whatsoever in releasing the final voting info.

I am more interested in seeing the figures for all the DO weeks, to see who survived, thanks to the judges.

That would be difficult as the series would be finished Which is my whole point

Why does anyone need to know - whether during or after the series?

Can only have a negative effect on participants.

They've got it right.

While I am nosy and would like the information we've managed nicely without knowing for years now so I see no need to change and if people don't want to pay for votes without knowing, then don't vote. The online ones are free so really not an issue.
