Husband just came home with a Xmas hamper. My first ever hamper and I was ridiculously happy with it. All nice farm shop stuff. Had my picture taken with it & eldest brought me a ladle and declared it Mamma's chow time. Cheeky cow.

See, easy to please.

I've no idea what I want. Possibly just a few books, but I can buy those myself anytime. I get paid on the 20th, so even if Mr Kivi tells me what he wants, it won't arrive before Christmas, so it's a tangerine and wooden spinning top for him

The only presents I've bought so far are new collars for the dogs and a chew-thing for the gerbils ”

I did actually buy a spinning top as a stocking filler for Jr (a small, psychadelic thingamajig).

New girlfriend please. It's been a sparse year and I'm feeling lonely!

My own personal time machine would be nice.

There would be a lot of very surprised little bastards indeed at the all boys Catholic school and onwards.

Plus a few thousand turns right when I should have turned left from around Nov '82.

So give me some ideas. What do you want for xmas?”

When I'm stuck for ideas of what to buy someone, I often turn to Buyagift and get them a meal for two, Afternoon Tea or a day out.

Ask grandparents for hairdryer/tongs and the other people for a voucher/gift card?

To be left alone, my Mother died last Monday, and everyone wants to invite me for a Christmas meal. I really want a couple of duvet days, where l can pop into the garden (her house) feed the creatures, and watch crap on the TV, without the constant (well meaning) phone calls and visits and all the legalise stuff. Almost tempted to escape to my place in London, but fear it's tempting fate that l won't get back for the funeral on 29/12.

Grieve in your own way and in your own time.

To be honest, I think that it takes away from things if you have to give other people ideas of what you would like for Xmas.

It would be nice if people know you well enough, to use their knowledge about you and their own imagination to get you a present that you will love.

Ok, there is a chance it could be an unwanted gift. In which case, you can have a good laugh about it.
However, it could also be spectactularly right, and the fact you never asked for this present makes it so much better than getting something you were half expecting anyway.

Apparently I'm really difficult to buy for as if I ever want anything I get it for myself

I completely understand. Close the curtains, turn off the 'phone and do exactly what you want to do. My condolences.

They all mean well, take comfort in that they care. If you need to, tell everyone you have plans for a quiet xmas on your own to reflect, unplug the phone and take the batteries out of the doorbell.
