Is this why McDonalds is referred to as Mucky Ds?

Went into one in Edinburgh last saturday morning for a bacon & egg McMuffin. While standing in the queue, the assistant manager poured my cup of coffee, but coughed without covering his mouth while pouring it. He again coughed while putting the lid on it. He then went on to sorting out hash browns - and never at any time went to wash his hands.

At the same time, I saw one of the cooks scratching his head vigorously - not wearing gloves or anything - and then handling the muffin rolls.

i challenged the assistant manager who said he never coughed (oh yes you did, said another customer) and said there was no need for him to wash his hands. I suggested he should even just after handling packaging for the hash browns.

The cook denied scratching his head too.

I decided not to eat there and asked for a refund. The assistant manager didn't want to refund, but two other customers behind me also asked for a refund because of his bad hygiene.

Guess I'll be on the look out now - I'll certainly not go back there if he's on duty.

Anyone else had bad hygiene experiences at fast food outlets?

No, but that needs reporting to environmental health - clear bio hazard.

I'd imagine food hygiene scores at McDonalds are pretty good overall, certainly compared to the independent fast food places.

But that's what makes the Kebabs taste so bloody awesome!

You should report him. You could have asked the others if they'd be willing to give you their name and phone number and support you. Three unrelated people are much more likely to be believed than just one!
