Think Tank .. bad adjudication
One of the decider questions today was something like: 'Cirrostratus and cumulonimbus are indicative of what kind of weather?'
Since these are both types of cloud the answer to anyone with an ounce of sense should have been 'Cloudy'. The contestant answered 'Rain' and Bill Turnbull, presumably via a message in his earpiece, gave it to her on the basis that 'Rain' and 'Cloud' (the correct answer) were so close in meaning that they were to all intents and purposes interchangeable. Ridiculous! We often have cloudy days without rain. The rub then was that the more intelligent contestant was asked a far more difficult question along the lines of: 'Which two words derived from Chinese mean 'enthusiastic' or 'excited?' She couldn't think of anything and so conceded. The answer was 'Gung ho' which to my mind means reckless or devil-may-care. Am I wrong? As an interesting final point on today's show, the 'Impossible Question', which none of the eight Think Tankers could answer before the programme, was: What is the name of the singer known as 'The Groover from Vancouver?' Seven out of the eight had answered Michael Buble (wrongly, of course) and one had said Celine Dion. The answer was actually Bryan Adams, which was news to me, partly because I never knew he was Canadian but also because I've never hear the nick-name used about him! |

Oh exactly what I was thinking when it happened. How can they say cloud and rain cannot be exclusive of each other. Good job she didn't go through.
